Declining Experience: A Once Memorable Restaurant Falls Short on Second Visit
First Visit: A Delightful and Authentic Experience
I had a satisfying experience during my first visit a year ago. Every single dish offered a unique, authentic taste, and the staff was highly professional, attentive, and decent. It was a memorable dining experience that stood out for its quality food and excellent service.
Second Visit: A Disappointing Decline
Unfortunately, my second visit was a complete letdown. The service was underwhelming and felt forced, with the staff not offering the same level of attention and professionalism. The food quality was highly disappointing. The dishes that were once memorable and authentic now seemed lackluster, and the overall taste was far from what I remembered. The food was only affordable if you were extremely hungry, as the quality didn’t justify the cost.
Food Quality and Value:
While the quantity of food was decent considering the price, the overall experience did not match the standard I had previously enjoyed. The North Indian dishes, which stood out during my first visit, now lacked the same unique and authentic flavors. Despite the lower cost compared to nearby dining options, the decline in quality and satisfaction was noticeable and disappointing.
Final Thoughts:
It’s unfortunate to see such a dramatic decline in both the service and food quality over just a year. What was once a place I looked forward to visiting is now a spot I would hesitate to return to. The restaurant needs to pay attention to these issues if they hope to regain the positive reputation they once...
Read moreI recently dined at Gulmohar Restaurant located within the IIT Bombay campus, and my experience was unfortunately quite disappointing. The restaurant, despite its prime location, falls short in several critical areas that significantly affect the dining experience. Firstly, the quality of the food was subpar. The dishes lacked the freshness and flavor one would expect from a restaurant that prides itself on quality. It was clear that attention to detail in food preparation was missing. Service was another major area of concern. The staff seemed indifferent and unresponsive to customer needs. Despite the restaurant not being particularly busy, it took an unreasonably long time to receive our orders. When the food arrived, some items were missing, and there was no follow-up or apology from the staff. It took multiple reminders to get the missing dishes served, which further delayed the meal and added to our frustration. Additionally, the pricing at Gulmohar Restaurant is on the higher side compared to the quality of the food and service provided. For the amount charged, one would expect a much better standard of both. The value for money is questionable, and I felt that the experience did not justify the cost. Lastly, the restaurant suffers from poor ventilation and a lack of proper air conditioning. The dining area felt uncomfortably warm, and the stuffy environment detracted from the...
Read moreThe restaurant is not entirely bad, but somehow it seems a little stuck in the 80s/90s. I ordered an American chop suey which was a sort of a gooey soggy mess.. palatable but only just.. not delectable in the slightest. The place was quite crowded.. which I don't think has anything to do with its quality but more to do with its location.
The staff was polite and available to ensure you were being served promptly.
The garden café adjoining the building that houses the restaurant is quite nice.. with tents and awnings, benches and suchlike as pictures posted by others will show. The service is quite prompt with liveried bearers taking food to tables and the food itself is okay.. I had a chicken grilled sandwich which was rather a bit sour (now when I think of it).. the that gets to me is that, here too the place reeks of the old government 'daftar / canteen' feel. This isn't exactly a bad thing perhaps for I did grow up in some PSU townships in the 80s and it does in a way lead to some reminiscences.. however it is at antipodes to the modernity all around.. even within the structure.
In conclusion, a facelift of the restaurant and a rejig of the food being served would improve standards and...
