Mokai Cafe in Bandra, Mumbai, exudes a chic and cozy ambiance, making it an inviting spot for a relaxed outing. The decor blends modern aesthetics with warm, earthy tones, creating a soothing environment. Soft lighting and comfortable seating add to the charm, making it a great place for both casual hangouts and quiet work sessions.

The Cloud Marshmallow 70% Valrhona Hot Chocolate at Mokai Cafe is a decadent treat that delights the senses. The rich 70% Valrhona chocolate creates a deep, intense flavor profile that is smooth and perfectly balanced—not overly sweet. Topped with a soft, fluffy marshmallow "cloud," it adds a playful and indulgent element to the drink, melting into the hot chocolate to enhance its creamy texture.

This drink is a must-try for true chocolate aficionados looking for a luxurious and satisfying experience. The presentation is as delightful as the taste, making it not just a beverage but a memorable indulgence.

The Strawberry Hot Chocolate at Mokai Cafe is a delightful fusion of fruity sweetness and creamy richness. The subtle tang of strawberry blends seamlessly with the smooth, velvety hot chocolate, creating a unique and indulgent flavor profile. The drink is well-balanced, with the sweetness of the strawberry complementing the chocolate rather than overpowering it.

The Togarashi Fries with Truffle Alolu at Mokai Cafe are a standout appetizer. The crispy fries are perfectly seasoned with a flavorful Togarashi spice blend, delivering a gentle kick of heat and umami. Paired with the creamy Truffle Alolu sauce, which adds a hint of earthiness and a luxurious touch, these fries are an irresistible combination of crunch and indulgence. A perfect snack to share—or enjoy solo!

The Grilled Chicken Sandwich is equally impressive, offering a hearty and satisfying bite. The tender, juicy grilled chicken is layered with fresh, crisp vegetables and complemented by a well-balanced spread that ties all the flavors together.

The Classic 55% Hot Chocolate at Mokai Cafe is a comforting and well-crafted beverage. With a moderate cocoa intensity, it strikes the perfect balance between richness and sweetness, making it an excellent choice for those who enjoy a classic chocolate flavor without it being too overwhelming.

The texture is smooth and velvety, offering a satisfying warmth in every sip. It’s a timeless treat that pairs well with any meal or can be enjoyed as a standalone indulgence. Perfect for chocolate lovers looking for a reliable yet delightful hot chocolate experience.

The Strawberry Pop Cooler at Mokai Cafe is an exciting twist on a classic cooler. The fresh, tangy strawberry flavors pair beautifully with the playful addition of boba, which adds a chewy, fun texture...

Pistachio cappuccino is yum and very delicious! ☕😍 but the size of the coffee was quite small. For two coffees, we paid around ₹780, which felt a bit overpriced for the quantity. But the taste was great, though I feel they should provide double the amount for that price. 🤔

However, the reason behind the 2-star rating is the service and coordination issues. I visited this place with high expectations and wanted to try a lot of items from the menu. Unfortunately, they asked me to wait for an unbelievable 1 hour and 20 minutes! ⏳😤 How can they expect customers to wait that long? It was really shocking. We decided to take the coffee to go instead. While we wanted to enjoy the ambience and try more items, the wait time really affected the experience. 😞

Today, on 6th January 2025, I went again, and thankfully, there wasn’t much waiting, so we got in quickly. We were a group of three, eating and drinking.

I ordered the Iced Mocha (White Pistachio), which was good ☕. One of my friends tried the Roasted Almond Latte, and we also noticed that the kombucha and boba tea menu weren’t provided to us – thanks to the staff member who didn’t bother giving us the full menu 🙄.

Where I was sitting, the waiter brushed past me 4-5 times while passing by, which was quite uncomfortable 😤.

Now, coming to the food:

Sichuan Spiced Fried Chicken Karaage: It was disappointing. It’s basically fish-and-chips-style batter on chicken, with way too much coating and oil. I didn’t like it at all. 🍗❌

Katsu Chicken Sandwich: Horrible! I don’t care if it’s Japanese or whatever – it tasted terrible. Plain white bread with normal chicken and some salad, all oily and just eww. 🥪🤢

Tiramisu French Toast: This was okay, leaning more towards the good side. 🍞👌

Our total bill was around ₹3000, which was completely unworthy for the experience. Earlier, I gave this place 2 stars for the pistachio latte, but now I’m giving it 1 star based on my overall...

Mokai Café – Chapel Road, Bandra West, Mumbai

🖼️ A visual delight set in iconic Bandra aesthetic Nestled on Chapel Road, Mokai stands out with a colorful mural inspired by Hokusai’s Great Wave, blended with a moka pot—a perfect hint of the café’s Asian fusion identity .

🌿 Style meets substance The two-storey interior is designed by Studio 6158 and Jungle Gym with minimalist Japanese aesthetics (wabi‑sabi), curved walls, earthy tones, and artistic murals—making it more than just a café, but an art space too .

☕ Thoughtful Asian‑inspired menu & coffee

Explore dishes like Congee with miso butter and mushrooms, Dan Dan noodles, Japanese sandos, Honey Butter Toast, MOKA‑misu (a sugar‑free, gluten‑free tiramisu‑style dessert), and Hong Kong–style soy chicken wontons .

For coffee, the house collaborates with Singapore’s Common Man Coffee Roasters—expect specialty brews like Pandan Cooler, Blueberry Matcha, Taro Boba, and Kyoto Cold Brew .

📣 Vibe & crowd

Weekends get packed fast—sometimes waiting in a communal table space is your only option, but the energy and music playlist (jazz/ambient) boost the vibe .

Reddit users rave:

“One of the best cafés here in Mumbai!... The vibe and the aesthetics of the place is supreme. Trust me fellow coffee lovers you won’t be disappointed!” But some note: “Gets way too crowded… on the expensive side… prices not justified… uncomfortable seating” — resulting in a score of 6.5/10 overall .

✅ What to expect

Aesthetically pleasing & photogenic

Exceptional fusion flavors—especially great if you enjoy Asian café-style foods

Strong coffee and refreshing signature beverages

Intimate ambience limited seating—arrive early to avoid the crowd

⚠️ Downsides

Can feel expensive compared to local cafés

Crowding and limited seating make it less ideal for long work sessions or large groups

Seating may feel cramped during peak times

Parking...

3.5/5 I won't deny it, the insistent appearance of Makai cafe reels did play a tiny role in it being added to my to-go list. The bigger factor being the wholesome coffee menu. We did go during a rush hour so it was a little noisy but we weren't rushed to vacate our table so that's a plus point for them. We ordered the following things - Malaysian iced coffee - very mid and nothing great going for it. Fries with garlic Aioli - the fries were mid but the dip was crazy delicious. Hongkong street style wontons (water chestnut) - the wontons in itself had a very thick outer layer which made it very dense. also because of this there was no particular taste of the filling inside. Chilli Garlic Noodles - lip smacking delicious. a must try. Spicy Avo Sando - spicy as the name suggests. they got this right where the spice hits you without burning your mouth. also the succulent avo mash is enough to cool.your taste buds without the need for added sweetness or drink. Iced Vietnamese coffee - very mediocre. sort of a disappointment. Spanish latte - decent enough. Hazelnut coffee (hot) - the star of the show. they don't use artificial flavouring and it showed. I usually don't enjoy hot coffees but this one seriously makes me want to come back for it. Service - The staff is polite and courteous. they are prompt to answer your questions and get you things to your table like water, extra cutlery or extra napkins. They do charge a service charge/fee. Pros (didn't affect the rating but worth mentioning) We had a good time. a cooler fan placed outside for guests waiting for their turn. Cons (didn't affect my rating but got to mention it) long waiting time a single washroom for a place receiving so much footfall. Summary - A little on the expensive side but if you visit places in the same price category then definitely give it a try.
