Ladu Samrat is hidden gem in the Marathi bastion of Lalbagh-Parel. It is now after renovation that it has come to be seen distinctly; otherwise it was blink-and-miss place on the busy street of Lalbagh. What a way in which the cuisine and the taste has been preserved.
The entire shop floor is divided into 2 sections; one is the restaurant and the other is the sweets and some ready to eat packaged food items section.
Let’s jump to the food straightaway; that’s what matters at the end of the day.
BATATA WADA [5/5] This dish has been imported from the Heavens! I mean how can anyone perfect it so much and with such precision every single time, it cannot be an earthly dish. Every time I pass by this restaurant and I have about 15 minutes to spare, I drop and have a single Wada. Yes, they are considerate enough to serve us a single Wada. For starters, the Wada is absolutely non-oily. The outer coating is thin and crisp. The filling is soft and spiced to perfection by fresh coriander, garlic and a hint of ginger. The icing on the cake is the chutney that’s served with it. Made from coconut shavings, green coriander and some chana dal, this thick mixture complements the Batata Wada to perfection. The canteen in my school used to serve similar chutney.
Thaalipeeth: 2 decent shaped roundels, deep fried and served with a wet chutney & dry chutney. Thankfully, the Thaalipeeth were moist from within in spite of being deep fried and served with white butter; Yummmm! The accompanying green chutney was spicy made from green coriander and mint.
Misal: Imagine Glenn McGrath bowling 5 superb unplayable deliveries to a No.11 batsman and then giving away a juicy half volley and getting hit for a six. Same is the case with the Misal here. It’s not in the same league as their Wada. I somehow could not fathom how they could drop their standards so much for the Misal. Misal is a mish-mash of various items; Pohe, some lentils, the gravy and farsan but in entirety it’s pretty insipid. You can seriously give it a miss here.
Punjabi Samosa: I was pleasantly surprised to find that they serve a pretty good Punjabi Samosa as well. The filing was also nicely flavoured and filled to the brim. The outer cover of the Samosa, made of maida is also of decent thickness, as required. This meant that the Samosa remained a Samosa and didn’t turn into a rattle which happens when filling is compromised upon. The Samosa is of good size and dimension, not infected by inflation and other costing factors. Accompanied by sweet and spicy chutney, this dish is a must have.
All this was washed down with a cup of Tea which was well made. I generally don’t have tea in any restaurant. For some strange reasons I find the taste of the tea to be the same is all restaurants, be it a Udupi restaurant or Ladu Samrat; as if they source their supplies from one person.
There is waiting time if you want to eat here. It depends on how many people accompany you. If you are a loner, then it may take 2-5 minutes or 15 minutes at the maximum.
Service is fast and efficient.
An amazing restaurant for any Maharashtrian delicacy except the MIsal and they have a huge counter of sweet offerings as well.

Read moreI've been repeatedly visiting this place and hence I can comment on their consistency. They are consistent with their quality and have maintained the taste so far as experienced by me in all my visits. Misal Pav - One of the best Misal one can have in their lifetime. This misal has flavours similar to the old Mumbai's Udupi misal. It's not too spicy for an average Indian or not too mild but it's highly flavourful! Has the base layer of Potato, then Sprouts, dipped in flavourful sprout Usal and it's served along with a pair of Mumbai Laadi Pav. Sabudana Vada - Again, one of the best Sabudana Vada one shall have in their lifetime. It's pretty consistent with its texture and taste. It is served with groundnut chutney which is just fabulously delicious. Batata Vada - One of the Best Batata Vada it is. Bhaji/stuffing of the Vada is just perfect with respect to the spices and flavours and it's fried to perfection every single time that the outer Besan layer is never undercooked. This Batata Vada can be ordered separately or in the form of other dishes such as Batata Vada Usal and/or Batata Vada Saambaar, both these dishes are soul and stomach filling. These were the top 3-4 I wanted to cover in this review and hence, the details. You can also try their other food items and you'll not be disappointed. They accept Credit/Debit Card payment and also UPI payments apart from the regular cash payments. Note: There will be a long queue on weekends and sometimes waiting periods of 40 minutes to more than an hour. In my last visit, I noticed that in the adjacent outlet they've started an air-conditioned dining facility. Soon I'll try that and update...

Recently visited the Lalbaug outlet of Laadu Samrat and to my surprise, It was a good experience !
Order might take time due to high volume of customers but for food, we can wait right ?
So I ordered, Vada Misal Pav(coz its one of my fav), Toast Sandwich coz Mom wanted to eat and Batata Bhaji Plate because why not ?
Vada Misal Pav was 4 out of 5, it could've been better if the Rassa was a bit spicy, basically when it comes to Misal, it has to be Spicy but maybe its the potato in the Vada that made it a bit sweet but the taste was tempting and it was kind of worth it to have ! The Buns(Pav) are giant so make sure you are empty if u want to order extra buns !
Toast Sandwich was 4.5 out of 5 because Mom liked it a lot, she expressed when we reached home even. It had perfect ingredients and no extra fillings to pop out of the sandwich ! The green chutney had that spark to keep having it with each bite along with good amount of spices in the sandwich !
Batata Bhaji(भज्जी) was 4 out of 5 because it was oily. No doubt I like this dish a lot but this one had an extra amount of oil which had an option to avoid if they took care of the oil on the भज्जी. For sure they will work on this or I'll let them know, was hungry and in rush so din't informed them but manageable !
Overall the experience at the outlet was good ! Good going team लाडूसम्राट! Kudos to the chef and the management...
