This was, without a doubt, the worst experiences I’ve ever had at a bar. Our group of nine – a mix of men and women – went to Renault on a Friday evening, hoping for a fun night out to relax and unwind. Instead, we were treated with outright rudeness and discrimination by the staff.
The entire evening, we were repeatedly told to "keep it down" and scolded for laughing or talking "too loudly." It felt like we weren’t allowed to enjoy ourselves at all! What’s infuriating is that other groups, mostly men, were just as loud and often louder, and the staff completely ignored them. Why were we targeted? It was clear this treatment was directed at us simply because we were a group that included women, and the double standard was beyond frustrating.
Even the men in our group spoke up, pointing out how unfair it was, but the staff simply didn’t care. And honestly, what do they expect when you’re in a big group? Of course, you’re going to speak a little louder just to hear each other over the bar’s noise. That’s totally normal in any decent bar, but apparently not here – where we were made to feel like a nuisance for simply having fun on a Friday night.
We were also shocked to see toddlers and young children in a place like this. It didn’t feel appropriate at all, given the setting, and just added to the feeling that this place doesn’t know what kind of atmosphere it wants to create.
To top it off, we spent nearly 10,000 on food and drinks, and in hindsight, it feels like we threw that money away. For a place in a city as progressive as Mumbai, I would never have expected to face such blatant discrimination and lack of basic respect. I’ve been to plenty of bars here, and I’ve never seen such biased, sexist behavior before.
If you’re a woman or in a mixed group and want to actually enjoy your night out, steer clear of this place. They don’t care about treating all customers equally, and they’ll ruin your evening without a...
Read moreHad one of the worst experiences in an evening out with friends last evening at this place. 9 of us working professionals arrived at Renault for a wind down time after a hectic week.... There were conversations at the table and there was leg pulling and hence we were in good space and having a good time.... All this was seriously marred by the staff repeatedly telling us to not talk loudly. What is important to note is that there were no voices raised in anger at our table the loud voices were that of merry making. It almost looked like the other patrons, mostly male showed serious misogynist tendencies of getting offended by the loud voices from our table simply because ours was a group of men and women while most of the other tables had men only. And they were talking loudly too....
What hurt the most was the fact that the staff at Renault were openly biased against us. It could be because the others were the regular customers at this place and the staff did not want to lose the future business with these. To do so, they were ready and did spoil our evening out.
Very sad indeed that something like this can happen in an otherwise beautiful city of Mumbai which is known for its permissible culture and where women generally feel safe and not targeted when they are out with their friends.
I think Renault should make it a point to not let mixed groups on their premises and be happy with their chauvinist regular customers who are all men.
Renault has lost us as a group from their customer list...
Read more5_10 mins walking distance from railway station and is next to Gloria church. Food was good. As mentioned place serves alcohol where rates are little cheap than other places compared. I ordered veg fried rice and reshmi kebab. Rice was good, consisted with more than considerable amount of veggies inside it . Loved the taste. Reshmi kebab had a lil more pinch of elaichi powder which ruined the taste of the marination. Chicken was tender. Not much juicy but overall okay. Alcohol# Jug of beer, a port wine and old monk. Beer and whiskey were served chill and were good. But in case of wine it had a fishy aftertaste in the end which let me to waste it. Where i "Suspect".... It May be served used or the wine may have spoiled... Overall experience was good. Hotel had two levels. Below was open and normal and the above one was closed and Air...
