I visited this place on Carter Road for the Kolkata Puchka ~ and while the puchka tasted authentic and exactly like Kolkata, the rest of the experience was disappointing. The chilla was average, and the club kachori sabzi was nowhere close to Kolkata’s taste.
The biggest issue here is poor hygiene. There were flies and small insects sitting on our plates while we were eating. The staff wear gloves, but they use the same gloves to clean surfaces and serve food, which makes no sense. Cleanliness is seriously lacking, and when politely mentioned, the staff were dismissive and spoke back instead of improving. There is no parking available, as the outlet is right on the main Carter Road lane among all the restaurants. Prices are on the higher side considering the average food quality, poor service, and lack of hygiene. This was my 5th or 6th visit, as I and my friends really enjoyed their Kolkata chaat earlier. But after repeatedly seeing the same hygiene issues, this will sadly be my last visit. Definitely not recommended unless...
Read moreFor a long time I was craving to have Jhal Muri...and I passed by Via Calcutta last Friday due to traffic diversion due to road work. Although I was not so hungry, I decided to stop by and take away Jhal Muri my favourite Kolkata Street food that I had savoured at Kolkata and Port Blair many years ago. A few chairs and tables were put out. It was more of an open air arrangement. The staff was helpful and prepared my order in a jiffy. I had to pay ₹10 extra for packaging but I think that's fair. The Jhal Muri was very spicy and tasty the way I like it. The portion for ₹110 was ok at least 2 people could have it comfortably. For all the crazy about Bong Street food it's a must visit. Next time I am going to have puchka and hopefully other...
Read moreI saw a long queue for panipuri at Carter road (which has a street full of non vegetarian restaurant options) and that's how I discovered this place. It's my first Calcutta street food experience in Mumbai and I must say it is delicious! Every dish on their menu is worth a try! Bas coupon lo line main lag jao. I had Calcutta style puchkas (they made the stuffing and fried big puris fresh in front of us), Googhni Aloo tikki chaat (I'm falling short of adjectives to praise this dish). They also had jhal mudi and kulhad wali chai but I was too full to taste it. I have...
