I stayed here in the six bedded female dorm for five nights in peak Mumbai monsoon season, and besides excess humidity faced absolutely no issues. The hostel is easily accessible and very well located (though it might not be spotted right away but the bhajiya seller right next door told me where to knock). The doors are secure with digital locks and the overall safety of this place is high. It is conveniently located within Chuim village with easy access to the market, a grocery store, vegetable and fruit vendors and any other thing one might need during the stay. The place is done up in white with lovely common spaces both downstairs and upstairs (the upstairs space is huge and has a lovely lounge vibe to it with big windows). The kitchen is also well equipped and the complimentary breakfast on each day was sufficient and nice. The staff is really warm and eager to help. It really helps that the owner of the space, Priya, is usually around. She is attentive to the smallest of needs of guests..for instance, the room I was in had a dehumidifier and four fans to ensure proper circulation and reduction of humidity. All the roofs, made with GI sheets, were covered in tarp to ensure a leak free monsoon. There was complimentary chai, and some lovely music, every evening in the common space. Priya actually encourages the residents to connect and get to know each other. While I deliberately didn't connect much with other guests, the little I interacted made it clear that the residents of this hostel were all sensible, smart and sorted people, which makes for a much more fun and relaxed atmosphere.
Coming to the room, the 6 bedded female dorm has an ensuite bathroom which is comparable to a decent hotel bathroom, and there is a lot of cleaning done to make sure it stays clean. The beds were super comfortable and clean, with privacy curtains as well. The AC was switched on in the evenings for the entire night, which kept the room comfortable. It did feel claustrophobic sometimes due to the lack of windows, but stepping out into any of the common areas (since anyway food is not allowed inside the dorms) helped with such instances.
Overall a great hostel option in a decent neighbourhood at a good price point, with the added advantage of cats who stay around the entrance. (I was also able to buy cat food from a nea by per store...

Pros: I absolutely loved my stay at Hammock Hostels. This was my first time in Mumbai and I can say this was nothing short of a great time. I stayed 3 nights in the female dorm and the dorm/common areas were always clean, inviting and friendly. As a solo female traveller, I also try to ensure I'm in a safe area when I walk around and I could walk around at night in this neighbourhood with no problems. No one bothered me, I could look at the vendors without anyone being pushy and the shops are friendly nearby. Behind the hostel is also one of the well-off districts so there's also security. I also got my laundry done at 200 rupees/kg and WOW! So fresh and clean and nicely folded. The company they use is top notch. Go on the Slums tour (one of the best in 1.5 years of non-stop travel) and the Street Food Tour given by Priya at the hostel was a welcomed introduction to the city. I was a little worried about street food, but she ensured that the places we went to, while not exactly at the street food stalls, were 100% safe. No food poisoning! Yay! Also dorms are pretty quiet at night despite being near a main street and no mosquitoes in the dorms. Great place also during the day in the common room to do some work as they have plenty of outlets (all outlets are universal - THANK YOU!). Oh and can't forget solidly fast wifi. Speed test: 176mbps!!! Finally!
Cons: Some of the staff don't speak English very well, but most times there's someone with excellent English.
THANKS HAMMOCK HOSTELS!! (And Priya ;))
Ps: They also feed the local cats. Sometimes there'll even be one that comes inside to find a lap or pillow...
Read moreWe stayed at Hammock Hostel. It’s on the edge of Bandra West, but everything is super accessible, whether you're walking or taking a rickshaw.
me and my friend originally booked 4 nights. Then we extended for 2 more. And then — I extended again. It wasn’t planned, but the people I met here became such good friends that I just didn’t want to leave.
I stayed in an 8-bed dorm. The staff were all kind and welcoming, always ready to help. There’s also a cat living in the hostel, which made it feel even more like home.
Every morning, they serve a simple breakfast and freshly made chai. The atmosphere is warm and relaxing.
There are two share space for people to chill, chat, work, or play games. It’s a great space for both quiet time and socializing.
There’s something happening here every day. On my first day, they hosted a stand-up comedy show.
On other days, guests often go out together for dinner or drinks.
I also joined a local tour provided by Get Local, which was great fun.
At first, the entrance might look a little old from the outside, but once you step in, the place is bright and clean.
It’s hard to put into words, but I believe the most important thing about a hostel is the warmth and connection you feel and Hammock Hostel truly gave me that.
It felt like a second home. I would highly recommend this place to anyone...
