Giannis Pure Veg Restaurant — Restaurant in Nainital

I recently visited Gianni’s Restaurant, Nainital, with a group of 7-8 people, and our experience was highly disappointing. We ordered multiple dishes, including Masala Dosa, Cheese Dosa, Rava Dosa, and Kumaon Thali, all of which were marked as the “Chef’s Special.” Unfortunately, none of them lived up to the title. The food was of low quality, poorly prepared, and completely lacking in flavor.

The Upma, which we ordered for a child, was by far the worst dish of all. It was so bad that I struggle to find words to describe it. For a place that claims to serve quality food, this was an absolute letdown.

While the prices were relatively reasonable, the food quality was unacceptable. In fact, I would strongly recommend that visitors opt for street food instead—it would be far better than what we experienced at Gianni’s.

Adding to the disappointment, this restaurant is a part of Hotel Channi Raja, where we stayed, and the hotel was just as poorly maintained and unsatisfactory. This hotel is located on the Mall Road in Nainital and is the best place to walk into for a vegetarian treat after moving about or shopping. The ambience is really good. One is welcomed by the courteous staff. I, along with some friends, ordered Vegetarian, Hot and Sour, and Tomato Soups. They tasted wonderful, though the vegetarian soup had a tad more of cheese. Then we had Veg Spring Rolls and Pakoras as starters. And they were superb and made one go for more. But since they are starters, we controlled ourselves. Then we went for Butter Rotis, Stuffed Paranthas, and Pudina Paranthas. They were served in style and tasted heavenly with just the right amount of butter on them. As side dishes, we ordered Navaratan Korma, Dal Fry, and Paneer Kali Mirch. The Navaratan Korma is a bit sweet and has dry fruits in it. But it tasted very good. The Paneer Kali Mirch won all of us by its unique flavour! The Vegetable Pulao we ordered next was great, both in portion and taste. And to end it all, we went for Gulab Jamun, that was amazing. Cockroach in my food. Giani Veg Restaurant - Extremely Disappointing.

I recently had breakfast at Giani Veg Restaurant, located in the Channi Raja Hotel, and it was a deeply unsettling experience. I ordered idli and aloo paratha, and to my horror, I discovered a cockroach in the sambar—after I had already consumed half of it.

The staff’s response was shockingly dismissive; they simply shrugged it off, saying, “It happens sometimes.” This lack of concern is unacceptable. Now, I’m left feeling paranoid about the hygiene standards and have even needed to take medication to cope with the nausea.

Additionally, the food is overpriced for what you receive. I strongly advise against dining here to spare anyone else from a similar experience. I will be reporting this incident to FSSAI to ensure that action is taken. Avoid Giani Veg Restaurant if you value your...
