The Purohit is a pure vegetarian restaurant overlooking the Nainital lake on its north-eastern shores. Sister to the once-vaunted Embassy next door, it provides good-value thalis and affordable vegetarian food(by Nainital Mall Road price benchmarks, at least. It was lunch time, so I ordered a Gujarati thali. The thepla in the thali was authentic and so was the chaas. The dal was a bit sweetish, like Gujarati dal, the kadhi however was nothing like the Gujarati kadhi I've had. There was no farsan either. The sweet kheer, wasn't authentic as well. The parts I liked most was the aloo curry, the boondi raita, the thepla and the khichdi. The nice bit was that it wasn't loaded with ghee, like typical Gujarati thalis. The service is unobtrusive, efficient and friendly. The chairs are a bit stiff, and not nearly as comfortable as Embassy next door. Read moreIt is one of the best options for pure vegetarian food options. As we all friends are vegetarian and prefer to eat only at pure veg restaurants so we found this gem.
We ordered missi roti, pudina parantha, tandoori butter naan with their amazing paneer butter masala and kadhai paneer option. The quantity is really good and enough for 3 people one bowl of subzi.
The taste is amazing and naan is crispy totally. This place is really affordable.
It also offers a great view as its on mall road and just opposite of Naini lake. So enjoy lake view while having lunch or dinner and cool breeze as well.
The staff is really courteous, polite and helpful.
This place also offers jain food and gujarati food as well.
Try once, you won't regret at all.
Worth spending...
Read moreThis resturant was extraordinary, exquisite and overall amazing. They had huge variety of mouth watering food. If you ever go there you should try; farmhouse pizza, fries, dosa or chocolate shake. The fries were very crispy and had the right amount of salt, as for the pizza it had the best cheese pull and thin crust. I loved their dosa because of the stuffing and the coconut chutney. All of this at a reasonable price.
We are vegetarian as we are jains and through communication with my friends I found out that more people chose the vegetarian purohit.
Food there comes in many genres; Jain Veg Non-Veg Chinese Italian Etc.
Thank you purohit for the perfect luncheon because as a food critic I enjoyed the food as well as the enthusiasm of...
