What words come to your mind when I say things like sitting on the floor, eating homemade food, served on paper plates (we call it pattal) and someone keeps an eye to make sure you are served well and are fully satisfied by the food? Home, right? That's the exact feeling I got when I visited Peedha Hotel for lunch on a Saturday evening. Usually I skip breakfast when I am out of home so that I am able to gorge on some awesome food that a place has to offer without worrying about me going over my calories for the day. It was lunch time and I was feeling really hungry. Bumped into this place on Google and decided to give it a try. And oh boy, what a decision this was! The drill is simple, remove your shoes outside, wash your hands, drink the water they serve, order either the mutton curry or liver curry along with the all you can eat dal, rice and rasam. They also serve some vegetables to go along. Today it was potato Subzi and tomato onion Subzi (at an added price). I would like to give the tomato onion Subzi a special mention. It was sweet and tangy at the same time, the onion gave it a great texture and you could taste fennel in the dish. I went ahead and ordered two servings of this delicious Subzi. The owner told me that this Subzi was made today only. So I felt lucky to have visited this place today. The mutton curry was nice too, with good amount of pieces in it. The dal was pretty standard, like home cooked plain yellow dal. The rasam was sour which went really well with the bland dal and rice. To end the food, they serve buttermilk as well. This place serves mutton pulao, egg curry and mutton curry in the evenings. The meals are exclusive only for lunch. Upon enquiring, the owners said this place has been around for around 60 years now and this is the third generation running this place. I highly recommend you visit this place and experience the food here. Highly highly recommended.

**Local Traditional Food** I am in love with this place. It's so traditional, simple and with delicious food. Pidha means a wooden board which is used to sit. They still have the same traditional way of sitting on the ground on a wooden board (see pics) placed on the ground. As soon as you sit, rice will be brought in pattal (dish madhe of leaf), then comes dal (lentils) and Charu (appetizers). Finally comes the classic mutton curry and if you ask they will server kaleji curry (lever curry). Everything is traditionally made and is served with love. Small pieces of mutton are tender and nicely cooked. Both the curry taste authentic with rice and dal. The crowd here shows that people still prefer simple traditional food above the fast food or costly restaurant. This place is highly recommended in Berhampur. Now let's see how it stands on CLAPS rating: C - Cuisine: No words to describe how pleased one would be after eating here. I went here at 10.30am in the morning and it was still crowded. Full ⭐ for maintaining the simplicity and tradition. L - Location: It's a small place but the place can easily be noticed when you pass from here just by the crowd standing out. And this needs no big sign board. Full ⭐. A - Ambience: There is no comparison when it comes to traditional way of sitting on ground. The sitting area is simple with 12 Pidha, clean and tidy. Full ⭐. P - Price: With it's name, food and tradition the price is ok. I paid 240 for everything you can see on pattal. With this taste and experience, I give it a full ⭐ here as well. S - Service: With only one menu, the service is fast. Food will be served within minutes. Staff is polite and cooperative. Full ⭐. I would highly recommend this in your list of places in Berhampur. It's a class in itself. Note: My review is based on my personal experience and you may have a different experience.

The legend and the legacy comes with a price. For a typical citizen of the town, this may seem a bit on the coatlier side, but still the taste will change ur views. The spicea are so basic and so subtle that the mutton doesn't loose it's flavour. The oil quantity is just pefect, it allows you to enjoy the juicy meat and it's nutrients. The liver curry is also perfectly balanced. The hygine of the place is commendable. It's an experience that no foodie should miss.
