Read moreWe ordered the beer taster tray, a few cocktails and beers, a mocktail, loaded French fries, squid rings, panleaf chicken, mushroom pizza, jeera pulao, and Hyderabadi dal tadka.
The beer was good — especially the stout, hefe, and apple cider. The food, however, was quite underwhelming. The only dish that really stood out was the squid rings. The panleaf chicken was disappointing, particularly considering the price. The pizza was decent, with fresh toppings. The jeera pulao had a sweet aftertaste, which I didn’t prefer , and the Hyderabadi dal was just about fine.
The mocktail was average, and most of the cocktails we tried were a letdown — they tasted like watered-down versions. However , the kahlua based dessert cocktail was excellent. Most of the gins listed on their menu were unavailable.
On a positive note, the music was great and at the right volume.
The biggest disappointment of the evening, though, was the service. Despite it being a Sunday evening with several tables empty and enough staff on the floor, the service was bad. We had a reservation, but the reception counter was deserted, and it took a few minutes before someone showed up to lead us to our table. After placing our order, one of the starters arrived, but our drinks were nowhere in sight. The beer sampler tray and cocktails eventually came out when we were already halfway through the starters. Throughout the evening, the staff seemed disengaged and actively avoided eye contact.
Overall, while the beer and music made for a pleasant atmosphere, the food, cocktails, and service left much...
Read moreThis is a review of Vaanam rooftop restaurant which also plays live music on weekends.
We arrived after reserving a table. However when we got here we realised that the live music happens on the rooftop in a restaurant named Vaanam also owned by Catamaran. However we were able to get a table upstairs easily.
The upstairs restaurant is a quite beautifully decorated with an area reserved for the band with a good sound system. We got a table close to the kitchen and it was a bit hot. However our server was kind enough to get a fan for us.
As for the drinks, we ordered a couple of beers and the apple cider. The Apple cider was a revelation. As for food we ordered a few starter dishes and pizza. The pizza was extremely good, supposedly made from sourdough and baked in a brick oven. Pizza is highly recommended!
Being vegetarians, the options were a bit limited but we felt they were enough. The service is quite fast and the staff are polite and courteous.
As for the band, they were quite good and played a mix of Tamil and Hindi film covers. They even took requests from the audience which was quite a treat!
If you’re visiting this place on the weekends, make sure to get a reservation. If you’re interested in live music make sure you mention Vaanam restaurant.
Vaanam rooftop is definitely worth returning for a music filled evening with good...
