Bharathiyar
Chinnaswami Subramania Bharati, also known as Bharathiyar (1882 – 1921) , a Tamil writer, poet and journalist, Indian independence activist and social reformer from Tamil Nadu. Known as "Mahakavi Bharati", he was the pioneer of modern Tamil poetry. Though Bharati was considered as a people's poet, he was also a great nationalist, outstanding freedom fighter and social visionary. His numerous works were songs of patriotism and nationalism during the Indian Independence movement.
Born in present Thoothukudi, Bharati had his early education in Tirunelveli and Varanasi and worked as a journalist, teacher, Raja Kavi, etc. Bharati was also an active member of the Indian National Congress. Due to an arrest warrant In 1908, Bharati (by the government of British India for his revolutionary activities) fled to Puducherry, where he lived until 1918.
Bharati's works were on varied themes covering religious, political and social aspects. Bharatiyar’s Songs are very often used In Tamil films and in many music concerts throughout India and overseas.

He was deeply influenced by Tamil Poet Mahakavi Subramania Bharati and named himself as Bharathidasan.
