Fish Aurant Restaurant — Restaurant in Puducherry

The reviews on google and the fact that we had to wait for over 45 minutes to get seated, kind of convinced us that this was a good place to eat, boy how wrong we were. It was lunch hour and was the place was crowded as most restaurants are in this area of pondicherry.

Ambience - Nothing to say, just a typical roadside restaurant. The pictures online are misleading. I've seen far better atmosphere at the small seafood shacks dressed along the coast of Pattinambakkam, where they serve authentic seafood at a fraction of the price.

Food - Seafood meals platter - Never tasted seafood so bland and flavourless. Fish fry, cultured prawns, nethili fry, crab balls; the entire platter was just orange covered crap. Not fresh, no salt nothing flavourful.

Chicken kolambu, meen kolambu, rasam - All three were disappointing and again no flavour, no taste. Chicken pieces were not cooked throughly. Meen kolambu was just water with a tiny piece of fish in it. Rasam was just salt water.

I keep thinking why this restaurant has numerous good reviews, while the eight us who ate there hated our lives for spending time and money here. Prawn biryani - Biryani was just coloured rice with pieces of prawn in it. - Just crap. In the sea food platter combo priced at Rs.1200, you get a small bowl of prawn biryani and white rice. One small cup of chicken kolambu, meen kolambu and rasam for two people- crap Chicken fingers - Good Fish and chips - Soggy fish, batter fried with un flavoured french fries - crap Elaneer payasam - good Crap soup - Just water with pieces of boiled crab in it. I shit you not, I love soups and this has got to be the worst soup I've ever tasted.

Staff - Impolite staff, the person who ushered us in wanted to sit us in separate tables, did not have the forethought to coordinate and set us up together. By the time he figured it out it was over an hour since we got there and finally the food was on our table. Again, once we were done with the lunch, this man there who I believe runs the joint, rushed us to clear the table before we even had time pay for our horrible meal.

The worst thing you could do as a sea food restaurant in pondicherry is have cultured prawns on the menu, the prawns smelled of chemicals.

Fish Aurant will go down as one of the worst sea food restaurants I have been to in a long time - Highly not...

I’ve went to tons of restaurants being in hospitality industry myself but had the worst experience of my life while dining in. I don’t want to comment on food since I didn’t had it as I was asked to get out from the restaurant. it’s about experience while having a food in restaurant which was extremely pathetic, especially if you are having kid along with you The owner in this restaurant is extremely arrogant and rude and knows nothing about hospitality or how to treat his own guest in restaurant. While we were getting comfortable since it was late afternoon and my baby was hungry, i had home cooked baby food (Dal Khichdi) with me which I was about to feed my child since she doesn’t eat outside food He came and started lecturing about how he doesn’t allow outside food in his restaurant. While I understand there are rules but to convey a message person can be polite as this is a sensitive topic of feeding a toddler. When I asked if u serve Dal Khichdi owner said no and very arrogantly asked to go outside the restaurant, feed the child on road and then come back to his restaurant. Since the statement was not pleasing to my ears I said that I would rather choose to not dine-in in his restaurant to which he replied he don’t mind and we can get out of his restaurant. I strongly not recommend this restaurant if you have a child with you. @owner- kindly enrol yourself in a hospitality training institute and come back to run your restaurant. Update: December 2019:

I went to the restaurant a few more times to make justice for the earlier review. Observed that the kitchen staff numbers have risen. Noticed 4+ ladies cooking or helping and one or two people taking orders.

The quality of the food is impressive. My favorites: Mixed sizzler, grilled prawns, mud lobster. Meat is fresh and tasty. I would recommend this place for sea food lovers.

As for the house fly: I noticed it only two times in my past say ten visits.

My first time experience:

Positive: Fantastic atmosphere. Good/friendly service. Rich menu with different varieties. For a person eating alone, the fish (alive) bowl was a nice companion. (check photos)

Negative:

I think the only person taking order was over working. He misinterpreted my order and brought veg soup. To fix their mistake they added something to the very soup and the result was a foul smelling bowl of liquid I couldn't touch.

There was a housefly I couldn't get rid of. Ended up accepting defeating and letting him take over the rice bowl.
