Gymkhana where Gym means a sport and khana means a foodies club! So Gymkhana is usually associated with sports patrons who are passionate about their players, cheering team and like minded people who shared a similar view. These guys mingled over Scotch, food and their respective families, making them a one united community. These gentleman/ladies were quite Hoity Toity in attitude because they were a class apart and were emerging India’s idols in their genre.
An image The East India Company and Britishers left - years from Quit India and Independence… India was on the map now, a democracy, a country with rich heritage. Here lived Indians who got educated in Britain and Europe, came to settled back in their country as Budding Indians building a new nation.
At a Gymkhana, Patrons ordered a continental menu, personalised menu from breakfast to dinner, eaten at different International locations.
LCR Gymkhana is a restaurant that holds old school charm of good old Educated Punekars who hung out at this road , Gymkhana reliving good memories with comrades.
Restaurant Location : LCR Gymkhana Veeya Vantage, Law College Rd, Pune
Parking available at entrance, open the doors to an interiors which is very Colonial – large ceiling, open french windows, airy and teak wood furniture. A large sports screen to the left and to the right a huge kitchen (enclosed). Waiters waiting to guide you to your table and assist you in ordering.
Menu has noteworthy classics from sunny sides, bun maska, Egg Kejrawal, cheese chilli toast to an exquisite mains in Continental, Chinese,Italian and very Indian. What we had was : I The Cheese garlic bun, Spinach & corn Croquettes, Caper Lemon Butter Prawns with bread sticks, A mains of Rogan Ghost(mutton), Dal Makhani with garlic naan. Followed with Chicken Biryani. Par excellence! Everything is so well presented, service, price worth the mulla and an absolute pleasure to my taste buds. Didn’t find anything to fault with criticism.
Will surely visit again. Now for the pictures and do press like if you found it informative and met your review...
Read moreUpdate: On the most recent visit, the main course order was taken at 9:10 p.m. The order was served at 9:55 p.m. Staff was inattentive to the delay until pointed out. Despite the inordinate delay, a service charge was added to the bill---the staff should have been conscientious about it and themselves removed it; I chose to make a quick exit rather than fuss about it. Will not be back for some time now. Hopefully, next visit will be better. Food remains good; kitchen is slow.
Original: I live nearby, so I have been visiting their place on a regular basis since its inception. I have seen the resto evolve as they have fine tuned many aspects of the entire dining experience very quickly. They have introduced a membership program, which offers the members several nice perks if you want to be a regular here. They have appended their menu with Gelato---a first for me here in Pune (I don't recall seeing it on my trail of resto's). The last time I walked by, I could also see an electric charging outlet; now that is really cool. So full marks on the constant upgradation.
I have always found the crowd and the ambiance to be very lively. They have only three tables for walk-in customers; rest are usually reserved in advance. Given the constant rush I see at this place, it is a good idea to reserve your seat so that you don't have to be waiting at peak times. The menu is mix of Continental, Chinese, and Indian. Lots of nice, unique dishes. Most of the food has been satisfying.
Now what's with the four star rating and not five? Well they really really need to hire an extra hand or two. Their service is seriously lackluster (every single time I have been here) because of a combination of the amount of footfall they get and being understaffed. To resto: Guys you really need to get at least one extra helping hand.
Will update as and when I see...
