Inconsistent level of service... Pros: 1)An economical choice for an overnight stay 2) Conveniently situated across the way from Train station 3)The convenience of in-house restaurant
Cons:
Upon arrival, non of the staff at the reception area, seemed to know anything about our pre-booking which my wife made over the phone (with a man who refused to give his name, nor did he even bother to give a reference number upon my wife's request) instead she was told,"don't worry, just come and everything will be sorted out as discussed"
The room which my wife booked was for an air-conditioned room (but when we arrived, the staff at the reception told us there were no air-conditioned rooms available at that time, but after making some changes by removing another guest out from an air conditioned room,we were then directed to a room with air-conditioning
There were cockroaches (insects) crawling around in the room (probably because the cleaning staff don't clean up properly)
We ordered a late night meal because we arrived there past 10pm ,so when we were done, there was not enough room to leave the plates anywhere in the room,so we left it just outside our room door (thinking maybe some hotel staff passing by would collect it,but much to our surprise, when we woke up next morning (around 9am,and were about to leave our room after getting ready) we couldn't help but notice that our dirty plates from the night before, were STILL in front of our door!!! Not only that, but as we were walking down the stairs to go to the restaurant to have breakfast,we noticed more dirt laying around in the passageways, which should have been cleaned up 1st thing in the morning, not still laying around noticably for guests to see...?!
The restaurant staff (a girl and a boy) were so unfriendly with no sense of hospitality to guests. The boy waiter took our order (and repeated it to us) but when our meals came,it was the wrong meal....!! So when we signaled him to check and change our order,he was insisting that we told him "Puri" instead of "Bhatura" ,though both my wife and I even showed him in the menu which one we want BUT STILL he WROTE DOWN the WRONG order AND gave it to the kitchen staff!!!
The female waiter had such a terrible attitude, showing a pulled up face while serving our meals and when we returned the meals,my wife asked her for a straw for our daughter, but instead of the waitress going to check for a straw, she decided to start cleaning up other tables around us,so my wife asked her AGAIN...then she tells my wife "there isn't any straws" So my wife asked her " If there isn't any straws, then why didn't you tell us in the 1st place, instead of walking up and down past us without saying anything!?" ....she could have even offered us an alternative, like a teaspoon cause my wife told her it was for the Lassi we ordered for our daughter. Conclusion: Sadly we have no intentions of returning to this place, and would not recommend it to anyone else (unless,it's just for 1 night stay to lay your head and leave the next day),other than that,to anyone else who may want to consider a stay over,DONT have any good expectations because the chances of you being disappointed are great. The ironic thing is,when we 1st visited the Old Kundan Dhaba 2 months ago,it was just for a meal, and to our surprise,we discovered they also have guest rooms (which we viewed and found it to be satisfactory at the time) which is why we never hesitated to return there a 2nd time BUT were sadly dissapointed by the poor level of service AND food we received :-( The only two Positive things I can take away from this experience ,is 1) When we met the old man responsible for taking our booking when my wife initially called,he was very kind and polite and treated us respectfully. 2) The elderly gentleman whom served us lunch,he was really hospitable and friendly and served us with a smile on his face, he even went a little out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and well taken care of :-)THANKS to both of these men who put the smile back on...
If you’re searching for a restaurant near Amritsar Junction, this spot is quite convenient—especially if you're staying nearby or just passing through. I’m planning to visit this week, mainly because there’s a hotel attached, and it’s one of the closest dine-in options around the station.
The place looks neat and clean and has a comfortable air-conditioned seating area, which is a big plus in the Amritsar heat. The ambience is peaceful, with well-arranged tables and a tidy interior. It definitely scores well on atmosphere and cleanliness.
However, when it comes to food and service, my expectations are moderate. I ate only the kulcha, but honestly, the taste didn’t justify the price. And I’ve definitely had better kulchas in other local joints. Other reviewers also mentioned that service was quite slow, with a 15–20 minute wait just to get someone to take the order.
Overall, I’d rate it 3 out of 5—mainly for the good atmosphere and location. If you’re nearby and want a clean, air-conditioned place to relax, it’s okay. But if you're looking for top-quality North Indian food, you might want to explore other...
Read moreI came back to India after 7 years and felt so homesick for Indian delicacies. My mom decided to take me to her favourite place Old Kundan Dhaba and believe me I have never had such a memorable experience of my life. On entering the dhaba we were greeted with bright smiles of the staff. They made sure we were comfortable and brought us tea/coffee to start with. We were seated on the first floor. The place was clean and well maintained. The staff took special care of our needs. Everything on the menu was mouth watering but I decided to go for “Aaloo Kulcha” and my favourite “Motichoor ke laddoo”. The preparation is so fresh, the entire dish tastes like magic. The owner of the dhaba is very polite, friendly and made sure we were well taken care of. I totally recommend this place as it brought back my chilhood memories with every dish I tasted. I will definitely be back to taste new items...
