Cafe Amin is one of my absolute favorite in chennai like most ppl who hail from this locality.. This has been a part of my life since my teens and i cant stop loving them enough.. In early 2010s they did loose their way a bit but now they seem to be back on track..
Located in royapettah near the police station this place is a literal land mark in this locality..
The parking is roadside for bikes and for cars they have rented a nearby place..so no issues there..
Though i have many experience here let me talk abt my last experience alone..
Ordered a Mutton Biryani, Chettinad Chicken Biryani, Chicken Fried Rice, Madras Kothu Parotta and Couple of Parottas..
Tandoori Chicken : Not their strong point of late as it lacks consistency.. The last try it was quite spicy and mint chutney too was watery.. Overall quite average..
Meals : First time we tried it and was quite good IMO.. The Gravies were quite tasty and the sides too.. The variety was a regular spread..
Mutton Biryani : The best they can offer and this has been a regular order here.. And this has a place on my list of must try biryanis in chennai..Succulent meat in a aromatic and flavorful birynai and absolutely killer in taste.. But the quantity seems less than before..
Madras Kothu Parotta : Another one of their specials.. Must try for sure.. Pair it with their chicken gravy and it is one of a killer combination...
Veg Fried Rice : Loaded with Veggies and the quantity is also good.. The Taste is quite unique as it is more peppery.. Definitely indiaized to the core..
Pricing is at par with most restaurant in this class and locality and also with great food.. This place is a...
Read moreMany years ago, (and I suppose that's enough to say without giving away how old I am getting to) I used to come to Cafe Amin when I was in college nearby for lunch. Back in those days, my granny lived close by, and while I wouldn't miss out on her excellent cooking, I would still crave some of the dishes Cafe Amin would offer. One of these was the paya (goat trotters). It used to be made with a mix of poppy seeds and other blends, and the whitish korma and paratta or idiyappam would be a great combination.
Fast forward to 2025, the korma has lost its magic while the paratta was still flaky, thin, and absorbent. All good things come to an end, and I guess one can not expect the same chef to continue cooking for 40 years flat. 🤣
That said, the restaurant is kind of dingy with poor lighting, which is usually common with all Indian restaurants universally and you have to go inside the second door to their air-conditioned dining room. Over all the service is good, the food is average and the...

First butter chicken was served which was extremely sweet then 25 mins later naan was served, by the time it came butter chicken became cold after which we dint feel like ordering anything else. Water was served in broken drinking glass after we finished the food. When asked about why they are giving food so late the good food supplier started yelling towards us , saying how many ppl can he have to serve at one time and refused to give us water again , when complained about what’s happening to the cashier and the owners sitting in front of the hotel … nobody really cared about it and supplier was yelling at us until we left the hotel …. Never coming back here and will not recommend anyone this hotel … there is no one there to educate the staff how to behave towards customers. Ppl without self respect please go...
