ECR Border Parotta is a roadside-style eatery near Mahabalipuram, popular among travelers and locals for its South Indian parottas and budget meals. However, based on recent experiences, the restaurant falls short on several essential fronts.
đ Ambience & Cleanliness
The setup is very basic and poorly maintained. The roof leaks during rain, and water drips directly into the dining area, creating discomfort for customers.
Hygiene is below standard â tables are often unclean, the general surroundings feel untidy, and maintenance is clearly neglected.
The washing area is not hygienic. The water provided there appears unclean and is definitely not suitable for mouth rinse or hand wash before eating.
đ° Pricing vs. Quality
One of the biggest disappointments is the price-to-quality mismatch. The food is priced too high for the quality and portion sizes offered.
For instance, a basic parotta meal or biryani seems overpriced considering the taste, meat quantity, and overall satisfaction.
Value for money is lacking, especially when compared to other local eateries in the same price range along the ECR belt.
đ Food Experience
Parottas are decentâsoft and flaky, and the bun parotta gets some praise.
Soups and vegetarian curries like the manchow soup and Indian mix veg curry are better than non-veg options.
Non-veg dishes like the mutton biryani are often criticized.
Example: multiple reviews mention the biryani containing only bones with barely any meat.
Quantity of side dishes like gravy is insufficient. You may need to repeatedly ask or wait to get it refilled.
đââď¸ Service
One of the few bright spots: the staff behavior is polite and respectful. Despite the rush or maintenance issues, the service team tries to be accommodating and professional.
There is usually a waiting time, but it's manageable if you're visiting during peak hours or weekends.
𧞠Key Summary
â Positives â Negatives
Soft parottas, decent veg options Very high prices for the food quality Polite and well-mannered service staff Poor hygiene & cleanliness in dining and washing areas Roadside access, available parking Leaking roof in dining space during rains Accepts digital payments Non-veg food lacks value and quality
đ Final Verdict
ECR Border Parotta may work for a quick parotta bite if youâre on the go, but if you expect a clean, comfortable dining experience with proper hygiene and value for money, it may not be the best choice. The food quality doesnât justify the high prices, and poor upkeep of the facilityâincluding unhygienic washing water and leaky ceilingsâdetract heavily from the overall experience.
Recommended only if you're in a hurry and sticking to basic veg/egg items. Otherwise, better options are available nearby on the...
Read moreIt went from good to bad to ugly. The soups( veg & non-veg) were good and expected others would follow the same. But it turned out not to be. The tawa fish fry (Sankara) was not good. The chicken garlic kebab taste was not great and quantity was also less. The BBQ grill order arrived when we finished our entire menu and we had to cancel it. The veechu parata was good. Now coming to the service , orders are very much delayed, they served non veg for veg people. To appease customer for the mistake they had done, they gave fish fry which was too much fried and almost was turned into charcoal. This made thing worse. Broiler chicken was served in place of nattu khzoli and literally it was half of whole chicken as a single piece (not cut in to pieces) served and call it as their special. The taste was also horrible. When we tried to ask for manager they said he was on break and his number is not there and so on excuses. Finally when we tried to argue, the manager came from no where and was very rude. They charge extra 5% for AC and they do not provide GST bill and are cheating customers.
PS: yes we did not pay bcoz of the above stated reasons and of the manger behavior. To say drunken fellows when no one had any drink, shows the arrogance and attitude of manager. As the owner says they gave a complimentary, yes they had, but it was worst and the complementry fish was like a charcoal. is this what we expect? It is enough to serve the ordered food in good taste. One of our friend, he rarely comes to restaurants and is a pure vegetarian. We have convinced him to come to the restaurant and this experience will shatter him to go out with friends. One has to mind these things when...
Read moreNo professionalism. Nobody is interested in customer service. Today (11/03/18) I went there for lunch. 10 minutes after sitting on a chair one person came and told to wait for the waiter. Then after sometime one waiter came with a menu card and gave the card to a couple who came there after our presence. He didn't show interest to give me the menu card and started to tell the items orally. Finally I ordered the food. Then after 10 minutes glasses for water were placed (after some repeated requests). The table which I had my lunch was continuously shaking in all the directions. Normally Briyani is a cooked food but it took approximately 30 minutes to see that in our table. Because they are asking the customer only after 20 minutes and bringing the food 20 minutes later the order was taken. The management should give required training to their staff. Yes, all the staffs should go to a special class to take care of the customers. At least the manager should take care of the issue first. There are some people to take care of the water, ( with the badge - "water") but they are simply walking across, seeing the customers and the table but not giving water even after some requests. The security at car park also speaking badly there. Food quality not up to the mark as told by somebody, but not bad. Really a sad and...
