Food Corner – Yelagiri Boat House: A Forgettable and Frustrating Dining Experience
Our visit to Food Corner, located near the Yelagiri Boat House, turned out to be one of the worst dining experiences we've had in a long time. Despite the restaurant being empty, the service was painfully slow and the environment completely unfit for dining.
We ordered chicken noodles, chicken fried rice, phulka, and paneer butter masala — only to receive our food after 30 minutes, even though we were the only customers at that time. We ended up spending 45 uncomfortable minutes inside the restaurant, mostly trying to tolerate the unbearable odor coming from two visible restrooms, which are in full view of every table. The smell made it nearly impossible to sit, let alone enjoy a meal.
When the food finally arrived, things only got worse:
The phulka was rubbery and chewy.
The paneer butter masala was a disaster — oily, heavy, and tasted awful.
Both the chicken fried rice and noodles were below average, lacking flavor and freshness.
We could hardly eat more than a few bites. With no intention to suffer further, we paid a hefty bill of ₹987 for what felt like a complete waste of time and money, and quickly left.
This wasn't just a one-off experience. On checking online reviews, we found similar complaints — slow service, poor hygiene, unappetizing food, and unjustified pricing. Sadly, Food Corner continues to operate in a prime tourist location without making even basic improvements.
Verdict: Food Corner at Yelagiri Boat House is not worth your time or money. Poor service, unhygienic surroundings, substandard food, and high prices make this place one to avoid. If you're visiting the area, it's best to bring your own food or explore better-rated...
Read moreNot many vegetarian options at Yelagiri. This hotel is roughly Rs.200 per person whereas Jain foods would be roughly Rs.400 per person. Emerald Dove is another vegetarian restaurant - I did not go there but they should also be on the expensive side. Food options are generally limited across all the vegetarian restaurants.
With less demand for vegetarian and poor footfall during weekdays, they probably have challenges running this hotel. I went for lunch at 1 PM and they wanted 30 more mins to get ready. I went for dinner and they just had Dosa as option. With more probing, they were open for Phulka + panner butter masala. Dosa, Chutney Sambar were actually good. But it just took so long for them to prepare. Going by the past reviews, it looks like they are known for delayed service. When I went, some local politicians were also occupying half the place for their discussions..
On a competitive location, this level of service would have been just 1 star. Considering the channeling ecosystem and the only budget friendly vegetarian restaurant at Yelagiri, I am ok with 4 star. If not for this hotel, vegetarian folks will run out of options.

Read moreOn New Year's Eve, December 31st, 2023, we placed a significant order from Yelagiri Food Corner, Boat House Road, expecting a delicious celebration. Unfortunately, our festive spirit was dampened by the arrival of a disastrously undercooked food parcel. The idlis, a staple of South Indian cuisine, were paltry and half-baked, barely edible and certainly not worth the price.
To add insult to injury, attempts to address this issue with the hotel owner were met with unacceptable responses. Instead of offering an apology or even attempting to rectify the situation, the owner ignored our concerns and even resorted to threats. This unprofessional behavior only amplified our disappointment and left us feeling cheated and disrespected.
For a bill of ₹1010, we received not only subpar food but also a disheartening experience. We urge potential patrons to exercise caution when considering Yelagiri Food Corner. The quality of their food and their abysmal customer service do not justify the price tag or the risk of ruining your...
