This Restaurant is located on the Gandhi Mandabam road in kotturpuram exactly opposite to AMM Matriculation School and few yards from the Anna Centenary Library...Due to a unique and traditional frontage this place is pretty hard to miss too..

Mutton Nenjelumbu Rasam : In recent times i have tried the mutton nenjelumbu rasam quite often and believe me when i say that this was the best i have had in my life time..Man the taste is still lingering on my tongue and just cant get enough of it..Perfectly spiced and bone extract was just perfect too..This would be such a bliss to ppl with sour throat or cold..

Vazhai poo Vadai : Hailed from the Kongunadu Cuisine this is one of the best vadai i have had thanks to the perfect texture with a crispy exterior and yummy banana flower and dhal mixture that is served with coconut chutney which is a worthy accompaniment to this yummy vadais..

Pallipalayam Mutton : Such soft and succulent pieces of mutton mixed in with coconut in a traditional pallipalayam masalas..Was just perfect in my opinion..yummy and it just left me wanting for more..

Urulai Podi Varuval : This belongs to the chettinad cuisine..Small Baby potatoes boiled well and tossed along with a mixture of ground lentils, chili powder and other items...This was the least impressive of the lot IMO..

Yeral Varuval : Prawns fried in with chilli powder with a hint of turmeric along with curry leaves and sesame seeds..The Prawns were soft and succulent and seemed so fresh overall..This too belonged to the Chettinad cuisine..

Pacha Masala Meen Fry : Seer fish that was grilled on a tawa in a green masala which had hints of curry leaves and also of lemon and other spices..the taste was something that stays on the tongue for a long while and the fish too was perfectly cooked..

Kongu Mutton Biryani : As the name suggests this was a typical kongu style mutton biryani with some tender pieces of mutton..The biryani was flavorful and quite aromatic and a must try when you visit the restaurant..

Eraichi Ishtew : Man This was one of the richest gravies i have had in a while and all this richness is from the rich coconut milk that was cooked in with the tender pieces of meat...The gravy is lightly spiced due to the addition of black pepper..and i recommend this with the aapams..They also have a veg variant called the Veg Ishtew..

Milagu Kozhi Chettinad : A Typical Chettinad dish spicy and yummy with crushed black pepper and lichen along with succulent chicken pieces..went well with the bunparotta..

Neichor : Rich rice with flavor of cardamom along with bay leaves...The Aroma of the butter was just top notch and as said the gravy served as the accompaniment did its job pretty well..

Drinks : We did try a variety of drinks of which the nannari sharbath was a welcome drink and it was quite perfectly made and good in taste..The neer more was quite decent..Vasantha Neer based of tender coconut was quite average IMO..Panagam was the best of the lot but was not consistent as the 2 drinks we ordered were a lot different in taste..Kokum Mojito and Kulaki Sharbath were also Good..

Suleimani Chai : The mix of arab and kerala this sulemani chai was one of the best i have had in recent times and that too in chennai..

Desserts : Kavuni Arisi Halwa and elaneer payasam were the ones we tried..The Elaneer payasam was just too good perfectly sweetened and yummy..The Halwa based up with kavuni arisi was really good and topped with cashews..Too good..

Savya Rasa did live up to my expectation with some good and yummy tasting food items...Though a couple of items did not meet expectations the majority of the items actually exceeded expectations and a few of them are something i would recommend in chennai for sure..Yes the pricing is on the higher and can be said its at par with star properties but the taste of food items and exceptional service in addition to the top class quality makes it completely worth to try on some special occasions.. A place i would definitely recommend...

Savya Rasa: A Disappointing Culinary Experience My family and I recently visited Savya Rasa, drawn in by positive reviews and the promise of diverse South Indian cuisines.

Unfortunately, our experience was largely a letdown, especially given the premium, five-star equivalent pricing that set high expectations for both taste and quality. Our Order and Honest Feedback We sampled a range of dishes, hoping for an authentic culinary journey:

Prawn Ghee Roast: This dish was a significant disappointment. It lacked the distinct flavor of ghee roast, and I couldn't detect any ghee at all. The prawns seemed frozen rather than fresh, resulting in a bland "normal prawns roast" that tasted like it was prepared by an amateur.

Erachi Stew: As a classic Kerala dish, I expected a rich, thick, and creamy stew with ample mutton. Instead, it was thin, watery, and contained very few mutton pieces. It tasted nothing like an authentic mutton stew, more akin to a watered-down curry.

Naalukettu Chicken Curry & Kori Masala: It was puzzling that these two dishes, despite their different names, tasted identical. Both were remarkably mediocre and suffered from a scarcity of chicken pieces. For the price, I expected either superior taste or generous quantity, but neither was delivered.

Bun Porotta: If you're familiar with the authentic Madurai bun porotta, you'll be disappointed. This version was nowhere near the real deal and was not inexpensive. Neer Dosa: While I don't want to be overly critical, this neer dosa was starchy and sticky, failing to capture the true texture and taste of the dish.

Muttai Appam: This was the highlight of our meal! It was perfectly prepared—fluffy, not sour, and tasted exactly as a Muttai Appam should.

Sweet Redemption The desserts offered a pleasant end to the meal. Both the Coconut Ice Cream and Kavuni Arisi Payasam were genuinely good.

Final Thoughts In my personal opinion, Savya Rasa would greatly benefit from refining its menu. If they focused on the dishes they excel at and truly understand—like the Muttai Appam and their desserts—it would significantly elevate the...

As an avid fan of Sayva Rasa's Onam Sadhya over the past 3-4 years, I was very disappointed with the experience we had this year on 5 Sep 2025. For something which is priced as high as this, the experience was certainly not worth it, and I wonder whether I will be interested in repeating it ever at all. Very poor crowd management - we reached at the allocated time slot, and were disappointed to see crowds of people having to wait outside as if waiting to enter a free food dharmasala! Not commensurate with the target segment of the guests at all. Once inside, I had to wonder whether they grossly overestimated their capacity, or has greed taken over - tables have been placed very very close to each other, with the employees having to squeeze between tables, often brushing past the plates of the guests. After a 15 minute wait outside, we had to further wait for 15 more minutes inside for someone to start serving us.

I was shocked to see that the open food containers were placed on the floor, and the people were walking right alongside the vessels. Unhygienic for any restaurant, more so for a place of this pedigree. Since we were seated right next to the kitchen swing doors, I could also see that the drinking water bottles were being filled up from some questionable tap inside - I sincerely hope that it was a clean water source.

It is a reasonable expectation for the presentation of such an elaborate offering to be made in a little more appetizing manner - small katoris to hold each of the items, rather than placing all the items onto a small leaf-shaped plate, eventually one item running into the other.

The taste of some of the items was quite questionable too - the olan did not have any salt at all, and it was hilarious for the chef to come and "explain" that in their part of Kerala it is served unsalted. The palada payasam & the chakka payasam were disappointing as well.

I sincerely hope this is just an aberration, and that the management looks at doing a strong review of this.

I am happy to provide any detailed comments...

We hadn't gone here for a long time because we thought it's just a South Indian restaurant, we're south indian. How different can it be? We were pleasently surprised. Right from the outset, it had a very authentic look. All the chairs and the tables reminded me of an ancestral homes that I've been to. The Smell was also very traditional, like your grandparents setting off an incense early morning. The waiters are dressed in Sarees and Dhotis and white shirts which just adds to the look. The Service was also prompt. We wanted to change tables and they did it fast. We never had to wait more than a few seconds when we wanted something. The Food was amazing. Their Coin Parotta with Chicken curry is a must try for starters. It's bite sized and disappears super fast. We also tried one of their coconut based chicken curries and bun parotta. Their bun parottas are soft and fluffy. Definitely recommend. While I initially thought their prices were a little on the higher side, the portion sizes for mains convinced me otherwise. The curry could serve like 4 people easily. We also got their prawn biriyani and we could hardly make a dent ( 2 people). Their Elaneer Payasam was the only thing I was not a fan of. It tasted a little too much like only Elaneer. Their Ambalapuzha Pal Payasam, on the other hand, was amazing. This is a great place to take a family with old people who are not too experimental with theirs foods. We went here a second time for my birthday with family. They have two rooms, one for 6 and another for 8 people. Our waiter for the day, Rueben, took really good care of us. He was attentive the whole time and shared portions correctly, filled our glasses up when we needed them and so on. We would recommend almost everything there. It's very homestlye, you don't feel like it's from a restaurant. The two standouts were prawn ghee roast and sainu thaatha's chicken kebab. Both of which are a must try. One of the waiters there also gave us their umbrella for us to move to our cabs. Amazing experience. We will come back again.

Ummm. Well, I'm not sure what to feel about this experience. In short, it was a huge letdown. I had been waiting to visit this restaurant and made a reservation for a birthday lunch on a weekday. It was still crowded, so reservations are always recommended. The place has no proper ventilation; I'm not sure if the AC was running or not. I was sweating profusely due to the heat and spice, and it felt suffocating. They seated us at a four-table setup split into two in a corner next to the kitchen, which might have been due to that. I'm giving two stars for the staff, who were trying to help us, but they do lack professionalism and the person who served us was unnecessarily talkative. As for the food, it's no value for money at such an exorbitant price. Although we enjoyed the Thengai Paal Rasam, everything else we ordered was nothing special. Nei Choru - Nei (ghee) was non-existent. Chinna vengaiyam chicken was juicy and nice. Bun parotta was flaky and soft. As for the Meen Mangai Curry (A whopping 795 Rs.) we had to literally fish out the 3 fish pieces, when enquired, we were told, it is how it is and then the Kamarkat drink had a huge chunk of ice despite our request for less ice. It tasted like flavored sparkling water and wasn't punchy or flavorful. The Palkatti Chettinad was spicy and salty. I asked the staff beforehand if it will be mild and not so spicy, he said yes. I've dined at similar restaurants with great experiences, but this was nothing extraordinary despite the decor and themed interior. I think I could get the same food for less than half of what we paid. I'd suggest improving the quality and quantity of food for the almost 5-star hotel pricing. Having recommended this restaurant to our foreign friends and clients before experiencing it myself, I think I should have thought about it. It's not about the money; it's about the value that we get out of it, which sadly, we didn't.
