We visited Yercaud on 08-06-2025 and dined at Sri Saravana Bhavan elite, expecting a good vegetarian experience, as the Salem branch has consistently delivered quality food. Unfortunately, the Yercaud branch was a major letdown and needs serious revamping.
We ordered Rava Dosa, Onion Dosa, Gobi 65, Chapatti, Masala Dosa, and Idli. The Rava Dosa was extremely thin and crumbled like paper, making it difficult to eat. The sambar served with all dishes had a very unpleasant taste — far from the standard expected at a reputed vegetarian chain. Chapatti was just average, but the kuruma was bland. Gobi 65 was very oily, lacked flavor, and was not worth the cost.
Onion Dosa and Masala Dosa were relatively better, but again, the poor sambar ruined the overall taste. All dosas were priced between ₹100 to ₹130, but the quality didn’t justify the high price.
Idli was the biggest disappointment. Priced at ₹48, it had a sour taste and didn’t go well with either the chutney or sambar. It was especially disheartening for families with children looking for a decent vegetarian meal.
Due to the lack of proper vegetarian restaurants in Yercaud, the place was overcrowded during peak hours. Many customers were visibly upset, and some were even arguing with the cooking staff.
Overall, it was a bitter experience. For a well-known chain like Sri Saravana Bhavan, such poor food quality at a prime tourist location is unacceptable. We hope the Yercaud branch is revamped to match the standards of its Salem...
Read moreSaravan bhavan claim to be high class restaurant. This itself is wrong, they just claim and without customers service in it. I purchased Ghee Roast Dosa there 29th Dec 19, cost of one dosa was 160 Rs plus tax, which is exorbitantly high. This is profit-mongering and greedy business at its best. I would say a quite decent south Indian food and nothing more as I have had better Ghee dosa in Bangalore at very minimal cost of 40 Rs. Where is 40 and 160? Agreed it's so-called hill station and rate may increase a bit but not to 160. This is not justified. Avoid greedy rats like this.
This place crowded beyond imagination on weekends and staff manager doesn't know how to manage it. Every body with coupon in their hands wait near counter and it is very insulting and embarrassing to wait like this after paying such heavy price for food items. This is definitely not high class service, it's below low-class service, and I would say poor and abysmal service which customers should not accept and people should raise their voice about. I did raise questions about this to manager there and he just shrugged it off saying "weekend crowd", which is not an excuse. I even suggested to do a token system which he was not willing listen. Totally avoidable place if you can avoid it. All food items are very highly, exorbitantly, and prohibitively priced. This is my first and last visit...
Read moreWe visited New Saravana Bhavan Elite Hotel recently. From the outside, the place looked impressive, and there was a decent crowd, so we initially thought it would be a good and authentic vegetarian restaurant.
We ordered masala dosa, idly, special biryani, and also took a parcel.
The idly was just okay, but the sambar was a big letdown — it tasted more like paruppu kulambu and seemed like it was prepared earlier in the day. It didn’t have the freshness or flavor expected, especially considering they charge ₹50 for just two idlies. At this price, even small street-side shops offer far better idly with tasty sambar.
The masala dosa was average. The potato filling was okay, not very flavorful. Again, the sambar was below average, and the chutney was just fine.
The special biryani was the most disappointing. Priced at ₹200, it was served in a small box with very limited quantity. The taste and quality didn’t match the price at all.
Overall, our experience with family and friends was not satisfactory. Given the brand name and outer appearance, we expected much better in terms of taste, quantity, and quality.
At this price point, we don’t recommend this place. We hope the management takes feedback seriously and works on improving the food quality and...
