We went to visit the ooty boat house and were very hungry by the time we reached here. Being people who often visit Thalassery in Bengaluru we thought this would be a safe place in terms of food.
No wonder place was shady and poorly maintained. Since we were very hungry we went against our better judgement and ordered food. The waiter who took our order started firing a streak of non-veg biryani options. I asked "Is there nothing in veg?" To which he gave me a stare as if I had asked if they sell salads there. We ordered veg biryani (which was not so great). We asked for papads to which he straight away said a "NO". Me and my husband were lost for words. I mean who says no for a papad?
We thought they must be thinking we are asking for a freebie. So we said again that you can charge us for it. To our utter disbelief the guy said 'No' again. Like it was part of their meal and if he gives free Papad everyone will start asking for it. Like dude was it a rare breed of mushroom? Don't you guys keep extra papads in your kitchen? Or you know your service is so bad that the papad would suffice if you stick the meagre amount headcount of people visiting that shack of yours?
Nevertheless, we talked to the person at the reception and he very politely gave us papads. But one more thing off what we felt was the palpable tones of unfriendliness towards non-Keralites.
Guys, shut down the place if you don't want to at least be kind to your customers. That's basic.
No wonder surprised to see the reviews now that every other person who visited here...

There is only one service boy who will take your order. Rest of the service boys are simply robots cleaning around the place - whatever you ask or tell them, they will not even respond to it. Order placed takes a lot of time to arrive. Flies are hovering around the tables. The food is not at all tasty and you need to pay double the cost which you will usually pay in some other decent restaurant. This restaurant is simply banking and exploiting the fact that its near the Ooty lake. Actually there are much better options of dining inside the Ooty lake complex. Request people not to get fooled around with the word 'thalessary'. The biryani you would get is not at all worth calling a biryani. We did a mistake of not dining inside the Ooty lake complex and came outside to have our food...
Read moreVery shady place and there's no hygiene that's maintained at all.
When you enter, there's a place to wash the hands and washroom at the side of it which stinks. The place is crowded, mostly by the people who come here for the authentic Thalassery food, but if someone who have had the Thalassery dishes earlier would agree that the food taste isn't so great here.
The service is slow, mostly because of the number of people. The tables aren't cleaned properly after one group has finishes eating.
Like I mentioned earlier, the food taste was average. Not very sure of the hygiene maintained. It was moderately priced for the quantity they provided tho.
Given an option, I would try a different...
