Udipi's Upahar Manikonda — Restaurant in Telangana

I visit this restaurant regularly with family. Couple of days ago I called the restaurant to check if they have a table for 7, the guy who picked up the restaurant said only two tables are full rest are empty. So you can just come down, I called him again to make sure we will not end up waiting. We reached this place in 10 minutes with my family and the same guy was in reception. He said all tables are full and wait for 15 mins. I told him that I called and asked you to reserve one. He said how would I know that in 10 mins all tables get booked, that is the exact reason why I called before reaching there. We had two hungry kids, we waited there patiently for more than half an hour, and even at that time they said wait another 15 to 20 mins. What is bad is, two and three people are sitting in a table for 6. Where as 4 tables are free, they suggested us to split occupy 2 different 4 tables. The guy in reception said, we don't reserve tables here at this restaurant and next time don't call just come and wait at the restaurant. Very arrogant. Hidden on the Shaikpet OU Colony to Lanco Manikonda Road, Udipi Upahar is a fantastic place to have good south indian food. The chefs are all from Udipi and hence the taste you get is authentic Udipi. It is slightly different from what u get in Chutneys or Minerva, but very good.

Uduipi joints are mainly self service, but this place has a small seating area with service available. Note that it is not a fine dine place, but one where you can get good and quick service food at a budget and its more for a working breakfast/lunch/dinner. It was open and full past 9.30pm when I visited. They have enough parking space for 2-3 cars and about 10 bikes. Anything more and it gets crowded.

Great Bisi bele bhaath and idlis. Good, crisp and nicely done Rava dosa. The filter coffee was just ok, but not bad. More than the idlis and dosas, its the pongal, tomato bhath, vangi bhath and BBB that one must try here. You do not get authentic taste of these items elsewhere.

Overall, its a very good place to go for a quick meal and where you can fill yourself without emptying...

I'll talk about this restaurant in pros cons. Lets jump to them - Pros

1. Right on the main road ie Lanco hills road. In the middle of manikonda.
2. Good food. I personally liked the food.
3. If you opt for thali, they give sufficient items and refills. The other items are also sufficient in quantity.
4. Courteous staff. The staff is courteous and quick in service.

Cons -

1. Seating arrangement is limited.
2. The coolers should be upgraded to ACs in this summer season.
3. I feel the staff can be increased by a few which i think is going to be increased in the coming days.

My overall conclusion is, you can definitely go to this place if you want good food in less budget. It will cost you not more than 250₹ for 3 people (on avg). If you are thinking of going for comfortable AC and ambience along with sophisticated waiters, then give a miss to it. i would prefer it if i am eating alone or having late night dinner in my pjs or if i am on...
