TL;DR Delicious Chinese food, great ambiance and cordial staff. Ask for recommendations from the staff, they know what’s good!
We had tried having dinner at Tao of Peng while we were staying at the Intercontinental but couldn’t as it was closed for guests due to a wedding party. Also, it’s only open on the weekends. We managed to get a dinner reservation while staying at the Sheraton close by. I will recommend calling and checking with them first and get a reservation.
We ordered for scallops sui mai and crisp chilli squid for appetisers. For mains, we had 24 hours cooked pork belly and XO fried rice with chicken and eggs. Vikram, our server, recommended us we get the crispy prawn cheung fun which is their specialty and it was a bang on recommendation for us!
The sui mai was juicy, the squid was cooked perfectly and not over cooked at all. The chilli dips went well with both the dishes. The cheung fun had a perfect balance of textures with crispy prawns rolled in steamed rice noodles that was complimented with the deeply flavourful sauce. The pork belly was so succulent that I could easily cut it into pieces with chopsticks because of the long and slow cook. The flavour of pork shines through a simple sauce and bok choy. The XO fried rice which is seasoned with seafood had a subtle flavour that is different from the usual fried rice but can still easily compliment any other mains you have with it. We were totally full after all this food and didn’t have any desserts or drinks. They have a good selection of drinks and handful of desserts that you could try out.
The whole dinner costed us Rs. 4,937 which can be steep but we felt that it was well worth it for once in a while or on special occasions. We had a few hitches with payment as the card machine wasn’t getting the network coverage at the restaurant. I tried paying through Google Pay but that got stuck in processing. We then went to the Intercontinental lobby and card machine worked there. They assured that they will refund in case the GPay payment goes through but it is most likely to fail.
Overall, it was a great experience dining at Tao of Peng. We will look forward to some other special occasion to visit...

For most average Indians, chinese food and subtelty of flavors maybe diametrically opposite concepts. But the Chef at Tao of Penang has defied this stereotype with their food which is packed with flavor without being over-the-top. From starter to dessert, each dish was a unique flavor bomb.
We had three appetizers for our all-veg meal. We started with Cheung fun crunchy vegetable- essentially a fried roll with crunchy vegetables inside and covered with a flat noodle. This was a chef's recommendation and now is mine too, to all those reading this review. The dish had a nice play of textures- soft, crispy, cruncy- all in one.
This was followed by Work fried Lotus stems- again amazing texture and caremelization- only a little sweeter than I would have liked, but I'm not complaining!
Third up was Black Truffle edmame dumplings. At first, I was a bit unimpressed with the flavor but when I dipped it with the accompanying black bean sauce, the dish was elevated to a whole new level.
For mains we ordered their vegetarian Hoofan noodles- handmade flat noodles with sprouts and snowpeas. They were, needless to say mildly flavoured. The noodles literally melted in the mouth.
To round up the meal I was surprised with a dessert- green tea panna cotta with anise flavoured chocolate dome and orange blossom icecream. Again an amazing combination of flavors that totally complemented each other.
All in all, an amazing meal! What topped the food was the amazing service rendered by the staff, especially the ever-smiling manager- Mr. Ntello. He was extremely conscientious about our preferences. Thanks so much Mr. Ntello and your team, for your recommendation and for making our dinner...
Read moreTao of Peng Restaurant, nestled within Intercontinental ECR, is a haven for authentic Chinese cuisine enthusiasts. The restaurant boasts a delightful ambience that sets the perfect mood for a culinary journey.
One of the standout features of this establishment is the commendable service provided by the restaurant staff. Their attentiveness and willingness to assist with kid food preparation were particularly appreciated, adding a thoughtful touch to the dining experience. In terms of food quality, Tao of Peng delivers consistently good dishes. However, it's worth noting that slightly larger portions could enhance the overall value proposition, especially considering the somewhat high pricing. This adjustment could encourage more frequent visits from patrons seeking both quality and quantity. If you're on the lookout for genuine Chinese flavors and a pleasant dining atmosphere, Tao of Peng Restaurant deserves a spot on your...
