NEAR AMINABAD KOTWALI Ajay Kumar tells us that his ancestor Net Ram was originally from Mathura. In 1854, he set up an establishment known as Net Ram, Mool Chand Sweets in Allahabad. The town still has an important crossroads named Net Ram Chauraha. He had two sons—Mool Chand and Bhim Singh. In 1922, Bhim Singh came to Lucknow to set up a stall in a fair, while Mool Chand stayed in Allahabad. The reception that Bhim Singh got from the people of Lucknow was so encouraging that he decided to set up shop here itself. After him, his son Lala Lal; his grandson, Ajay Agrawal; great-grandson, Anoop Agrawal and currently great-great grandson Amol Agrawal took over in time. Jalebis are still poured out into the frying pan from a copper vessel in this establishment, and their balushahi is soft and fluffy as cotton wool. The don’t serve chhole with pooris—instead, they serve sabzi made with potatos and pumpkins, with accompaniments of raita and achar. Employees have worked here since they were small. Mantri, for example, who makes jalebi and imarti has been at his post for the past 50 years. Chunni Lal makes khasta, samosa and pooris. Ram Nath is responsible for all the sweets made with chhena...
Read moreNetram Ajay Kumar is a very famous and old sweets shop near Aminabad area Lucknow, they call themselves as old as 140 years. I heard about their Poori Thali a lot from many people including some food bloggers and youtubers. When I went to lucknow it was in my bucket list I went to shop around 9:30 am for breakfast. First of all i find it over rated and overly priced when poori thali came at my table it looks yummy but after taking the first bite I thought why I came to this place while I have too many options in nearby area. The aloo sabzi has no flavours at all, a total dull flavour poori are also small in size and they charged rs 75/- for 2 pooris very over priced.
I had breakfast at all famous joints in lucknow but this place Netram Ajay Kumar was very disappointing. Their jalebi was quite good but poori thali was very disappointing. Better to avoid this place and go...
Read moreNetrams is one of the few places in Lucknow where you get authentic UP ( Uttar Pradesh ) style pure vegetarian food made in desi ghee. For the information of domestic or foreign tourists desi ghee is made from cows milk, has a pleasant taste n aroma and is increasingly being recommended by doctors as a healthy cooking medium. You are served delectable pooris or cachuris ( a poori like dal n masala stuffed deep fried bread ) in a multi compartment plate filled with 3 different veg preparations, raita and tamarind - jaggery based chutney. One can keep on ordering freshly taken out, I recommend cachuris and the accompaniments are replenished as much as one can eat. So payment is based on number of cachuris ordered and believe me it is very reasonable. For dessert one should try the various types of pedas, rabri etc. Available throughout the...
