The decor is basic, with minimal ornamentation, but the restaurant makes up for it with its delicious food.

Read moreA very very renowned and reputed eatery which became famous for their biriyani not only locally but also in the entire state.
I have eaten here since they were a very small rice meal serving hotel in the mid 1980s perhaps named "Janta ..... Hotel" (forgot the name). Then they started cooking biriyani in small quantities when biriyani was available in only selected outlets in Kolkata and slowly they became a hit .
I don't love their biriyani but that doesn't mean that it is bad but because lacs of people are just crazy about their biriyani and enjoy and relish the item. I find it overspicy and greasy and it kicks up digestion issues .
Anyways, keeping my personal issues aside, Kudos to the owners who have successfully built up this huge name for their eatery only shows their credibility and quality. Secondly, Kudos to them for generating employment locally. I think not less than 500 to 1000 persons earn their livelihood from this business.
Now coming to food, Food is good and tasty though pretty rich and oily. Variety in menu is also wide, starting from Bengali thali to Mughlai to Chinese and perhaps some South Indian too (Forgetting the details at this age) The service is also ok. Doesn't take too much time if compared with the rush The ambience is ok. The sitting arrangement is a bit claustrophobic. Could have been a little better. I am telling about the 3rd or 4th floor where we were made to sit. The ambience is also pretty noisy and loud. Although they have multiple floors, customers don't have the choice to select. They are pushed to the floor as and where vacancy is generated. The poorest part is the crowd management. Initially you have to stand in queue most of the time as the restaurant remains full almost everytime I pass by it irrespective of time. I almost see at least 50 to 100 people always standing outside the shed on the footpath whether it is scorching sun or drizzle. Sometimes very senior people are offered to sit in bench under the shed, if it is not pre-occupied by others.
So the management should think about this seriously and make a comfortable waiting arrangement for customers in queue. I can't imagine standing in queue with family in sun or rain on footpath (for considerable duration) when the mood is to have a relaxing lunch or dinner at a premium top of the line restaurant. This restaurant can't be categorised for "Fine Dining", that's for sure.
Regarding price, the items are a bit pricey but the quantities are good.
Despite its negativities, I recommend this premium eatery to everybody to have a first...
