Besides yellow taxis, one of the most iconic modes of transportation in Kolkata is the tramcar. And it has been plying on the streets of Kolkata since 1902. And now, you can dine inside a tram too. Kolkata Street food has launched an outlet in Kolkata’s Newtown by refurbishing an old tram compartment into a quaint eatery. It is still undergoing restoration when we visited. Among food, it will serve a variety of Kolkata specialities like khasta kachori, singara, papri chaat, chowmein and chicken stew with bread. The pillars and surroundings are also given touches of Calcutta in the 1970s with posters of old films, illustrations of yellow taxis, double-decker buses, rickshaws...

It is situated on the opposite of Mother's Wax Museum and Kolkata Street Food Restaurant. Generally, you have to order your food from the Street Food Restaurant and you can dine in the Tram cafe. The staff were very friendly and the food was good. We tried the Fish fry (very good, 150/-) and the Chicken Cutlet (okay-ish, 160/-) and Nolen Gur Icecream (delicious, 149/-). Read moreThis cafe is situated infront of Mother wax museum, Newtown, Kolkata and opposite of ecopark gate 1. When you're planning for eco park, this can be a good meal option. However you've Café Ekante in eco park which is highly recommended and rated 4.2 from 5k+ reviewers.
In busy days like Sunday, the Café Ekante will have be a long queues as you need to on-board to a boat to reach there.
Tram cafe is an unit of café ekante but don't have that much quality foods but the environment is quite good here.
