Yesterday, our group of friends embarked on a culinary adventure at Valaioosai Restaurant, nestled along the scenic East Coast Road (ECR). Known for its delectable seafood offerings, we couldn't resist trying out this seafood haven.
To kick off our gastronomic journey, we opted for the famed Pepper Prawn and Fish Fry. The flavors were nothing short of exceptional, leaving our taste buds dancing in delight. Eager to explore further, we ventured into the live fish section, where a mesmerizing display of fishes awaited us. The unique pricing system based on fish size piqued our interest, and we selected a sizable fish for a customized fry. The outcome was nothing less than sublime.
However, our culinary voyage hit a slight bump when we decided to try the Kerala-style fry with fish from the icebox. Regrettably, it didn't live up to our expectations. Nevertheless, we were undeterred and ordered Fried Rice, which offered a satisfactory taste, though not outstanding. Our anticipation peaked as we ordered the Mixed Biryani, but it failed to meet our culinary hopes.
One of the restaurant's most intriguing features was the temporary pond, allowing patrons to engage in a unique experience. We tried our hand at "fishing" in the pond, and the restaurant's cooking team transformed our catch into innovative and mouthwatering dishes.
In summary, Valaioosai Restaurant, located on ECR, offers a seafood journey filled with highs and lows. While some dishes like the Pepper Prawn and customized fried fish were a true delight, others like the Kerala-style fry and Mixed Biryani left us wanting more. The interactive pond experience added a distinctive touch to our visit, making it an overall memorable outing for our...

Read morePrior to our drive from Bengaluru to Chennai, we were looking on Google Maps for a suitable seafood restaurant on ECR en route to Taj Fisherman's Cove. Maps showed us this restaurant alongside some others like Thoondil.
We chose this one after reading some reviews and checking out photos of the place. We got there at 12:15pm and Maps said it only opens by 12:30, but Miss Google was not correct. They were already open for business although we were the first customers of the day.
We liked the design of the restaurant, the pond in the middle and the first floor group dining area with a TV and overlooking the pond. Seeing the pond, I initially thought it would be a breeding ground for mosquitoes, but I noticed that the water was agitated, thereby preventing stagnation of the water.
We ordered crab masala, basmati rice and fish tawa fry. The crab masala was great, I mean specifically the masala. My wife felt that the masala might be common to many of their curries because the crab didn't specifically taste of the masala which probably meant that it was cooked separately.
The first tawa fry was mediocre: nothing great, but it wasn't bad either. The rice quantity (1 bowl) was sufficient for both of us.
For dessert, I ordered chocolate ice cream (double scoop). It was good: no ice crystals, so it hasn't undergone thawing and re-freezing.
The service was quick (I suppose everything was already cooked and just needed reheating). The staff were friendly and welcoming.
I wouldn't mind...
