My experience with Mount Road Bilal in Sholinganallur was somewhat similar to some of the reviews I’ve come across. The chicken biryani, in particular, felt more like "thakkali soru" (tomato rice) with chicken pieces. While the flavor is manageable when served hot, it doesn't leave a lasting impression. It's the kind of place where you might try it once, but it doesn't really compel you to return. However, for children or anyone who prefers a less spicy biryani, this would be an excellent choice.
One of the highlights of the meal was the side dishes. The brinjal gravy, raita, and the sweet dish provided alongside the biryani were absolutely delightful. While the main dish had some taste-related shortcomings, the side dishes helped enhance the overall dining experience.
The staff deserves a special mention for their politeness and attentiveness. Most of the serving personnel were considerate, listened carefully to our requests, and ensured our needs were met with kindness. It’s hard to say whether this excellent service is due to proper training, grooming, or the inherent attitude of the staff, but if it’s a result of recruitment efforts, kudos to the team for selecting such fine individuals. However, I must note that not all staff members displayed the same level of service.
The atmosphere of the restaurant was pleasant and well-maintained. Special attention has been given to cleanliness, with the washrooms and hand wash areas being particularly hygienic. They provide tissues and hand wash liquid, which adds to the overall comfort of the diners.
Another positive aspect is the variety of payment options available. The restaurant accepts all major modes of payment, including cash, credit cards, and UPI payments, making transactions convenient for customers.
Finally, I would like to add a disclaimer: The above review is based on my personal experience during my visit and is subject to change over time. Read moreWe visited Mount Road Bilal on ECR around midnight, and the place was surprisingly crowded, reflecting its popularity even at late hours. The ambience was good, with a lively atmosphere, but we found the food to be a bit on the pricier side compared to other options in the area.
What We Tried: Mutton Biryani (₹350 including GST): The mutton biryani was good but not the best we've had. It came with three pieces of perfectly cooked mutton, each tender and flavorful with the right amount of spice. The biryani rice was aromatic, but overall, the dish didn’t quite stand out to justify the price. For ₹350, we expected a bit more in terms of portion and flavor intensity.
Grill Chicken Half (₹305 including GST): The grilled chicken was soft, with tender meat, but the masala was quite average. It lacked the depth of flavor that you'd expect from a place known for non-veg dishes. The seasoning didn’t stand out, and for the price of ₹305, it was a bit underwhelming.
Goli Soda (₹50): We also tried a goli soda, which cost ₹50 for a single bottle. It was refreshing, but the price felt steep for such a simple beverage.
Final Thoughts: Mount Road Bilal offers decent food but is one of the costlier options in the area. While the mutton biryani was cooked well, and the ambience was lively even at midnight, the overall value for money is questionable. If you're looking for a quick late-night meal in a crowded, buzzing environment and don’t mind spending a bit extra, this place is worth a try. However, there are better options available at a lower price if you're more focused on getting the best flavor...
