I've been to Mainland China for a sunday lunch buffet. I opted for veg and liked the soup. Waiters were courteous and the service was adequate. Five varieties of starters were served here and the waiter serving me seemed to be too generous which left me bemused for a little while.
Mainland China serves some amazing starters which are flavourful and aromatic that you may not find the same in you regular chinese dining spot.
Anyway, after completing my starters and that too a generous five course starters made me full. The maincourse was okay but not competent. Indian chinese gravies were good but the veg patty in hoisin sauce was a bit nauseating and too pungent which I think left a bad impression on me. For desserts, I had two lovely scoops of chocolate icecream and pastries.
Being in the midst of their 23rd Anniversary, I was asked to pick a surprise card from the glass bowl. I picked up one and read 'a free mocktail'. So I opted for fruit punch. It was delicious.
The veg buffet was priced at (Rs.629) inclusive of taxes on weekends.
I would give five stars for the decor as this restaurant has oriental artefacts, images and chinese soldiers in their outfits. Bright touches of red color as in the lights and the wood decor add to their efforts of making the guests feel like they're dining in the dragons den. A dream come true for authentic chinese decor enthusiasts. I appreciate that.
My suggestions to the Mainland China team: please ensure that the sauces are just perfect to go with noodles. As I found a few sauces cant be a great match for the veg. noodles. So I had to leave my maincourse in the middle and opted for the desserts.
No complaints otherwise. Overall a nice experience. They try to match the experience as seen on their commercial.
Making a reservation is advisable on weekends as all their tables...
Read moreSubject: Disappointing Experience at Mainland China, Anna Nagar
Dear Mainland China Management,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with my recent dining experience at your Anna Nagar branch My partner and I had eagerly booked a table for your lunch buffet well in advance, excited to enjoy a delightful meal at your esteemed establishment. However, our visit on Sep 19 23 left us with an overwhelmingly negative impression.
Firstly, despite our reservation, we were made to wait for approximately 30 minutes before being seated. This extended delay was quite disheartening, especially when we had made the effort to plan our visit ahead of time.
Upon finally being seated, we were served two starters after another wait of 10 minutes. To our disappointment, the main course and dessert offerings were incredibly limited, and what was available was not being refilled promptly. This lack of variety greatly diminished our buffet experience. Moreover, the lackluster service extended beyond the food. The staff seemed disinterested and inattentive to our needs. At no point during our meal did they inquire about our satisfaction or offer assistance. What makes this experience particularly disheartening is that we paid a substantial amount, 1800 INR for two people, expecting a value-for-money dining experience. Regrettably, this was far from the case. I believe it is essential for your establishment to be aware of such customer experiences to maintain the high standards that you are known for. I sincerely hope you take this feedback into account to improve your service and offerings. I would appreciate it if you could investigate the issues we encountered and take the necessary steps to ensure that future patrons do not face similar...
Read moreMainland China was an outstanding restaurant a few years back but I can see that the place is slowly getting jaded . The price is quite high but the quality of service one gets for that price is not there but saying that it is still a place to go in Anna Nagar for Asian Cuisine..
The ambiance is still good in all the branches incuding this branch. The lighting and the air-conditioning is pretty good at all times. This time I ordered two different Dimsums, Hunan Chicken Noodles and Miced meat and seafood fried ride. The rice was pretty nice the Noodles was average. It did not have a wow factor which is normal in Mainland China. The spicy chicken semi gravy was actually below average. I made the mistake of taking the suggestions from the waiter but the dish was red hot and over spiced. Every gravy had the same colour and similar taste. The Dimsums were good and soft but for 500 plus all we got was 4 nos of dimsums which I feel is unfair. I expected atleast 6 or more.
I think the waiter thought all South Indians love highly spiced dishes. I clearly expected medium spice but the dish are clearly overdone. The rice was clearly the winner in my order. The service was very very friendly and nice and they were well trained to handle customers the right way. I think the next time I will order all my dishes rather than taking advice from the waiter. It takes a lot of effort to get the attention of the waiters. Once they put the food on the table they just forget their customers.
Overall it was an average experience. All the dishes are around 500 -600 range so I expected a lot more. Hope Mainland China will buck up after all we are paying a lot. Still a decent place to go for...
