After seeing the beautiful Insta reel about this place, I took my father for lunch today.
It is mandatory to book a table which we didn't know, went walk-in but got the floor seating option being only 2 after requesting them. Atmosphere is excellent 👌
We have only 2 options viz. Vedhavalli's Brahmana Bhojanam and Kalandha Sadam Bhojanam for lunch. Both are super costly for what we get. Refer attached pictures for details of each bhojanam along with price excluding GST. We opted for the 1st one - Full meals instead of mini meals 😜
First, we were served with 2 welcome drinks - Lemon juice and panagam. Lemon 🍋 juice 🥤 is good while Panagam was decent but tasted differently. Corn 🌽 salad 🥗 is excellent 👍
Second, we were served with 3 starters viz. Stuffed molaga bhaji, sutta badanekayi thatte and goli bhaji. Stuffed molaga bhaji was very spicy 🔥 🥵 since the potato stuffing has 4-5 pieces of green chillies which I didn't notice and had. The topping of thatte is overcooked which we can even infer through smell. Goli bhaji can be softer. Overall, all 3 starters are not great. They never bothered to ask repeat 🔁 neither do we.
We were informed initially that food is made fresh each time, so we need to wait 10 minutes for it to be served fresh each time. We were ok till now. But they made us wait for ~30 minutes for meals to be served, which are not going to be made fresh for each one separately.
Then came the much awaited meals consist of Rice 🍚, podi, ghee, paruppu, poriyal, kootu, sambar, rasam, curd, vadai (rather call it mini vadai), vadam and pickle. The taste of Podi with ghee is outstanding. Even the paruppu, kootu and mini vadai are awesome. The rest of the items are simple / okish. Nothing special / great to cherish.
The initial serving quantity of rice 🍚 is very less. Even the refill quantity of rice is also less. Just a small cup of rice in which sambar etc. are served is used for refilling. Though the meals are unlimited and they are ready to refill several times, it is kind of frustrating considering the super expensive price they charge for the meals.
It is a classic "keep 'em asking" strategy! It’s a subtle psychological tactic to make customers feel less likely to overconsume while technically offering unlimited servings. Many people prefer receiving a reasonable portion upfront rather than feeling like they need to repeatedly request more.
At last, we were served with 3 desserts viz. Akkara Adisil, Obbartu (aka Poli) and Karupatti mysore pak. Poli and Mysore Pak were awesome while akkara adisil is not great. We skipped Coffee/ tea and beeda.
Service is ok but can be more attentive. Sometimes they are attentive while at times there is no one to help. Serving time definitely needs improvement irrespective of the crowd.
Pricing is definitely on the higher side even after considering the ambience. We felt we would get value for money 💰 through food which also not happened. They don't have normal mineral water. We were charged Rs.150/- for that premium water which we didn't know. Overall it was an average experience.
Request to management - a. Upload menu and price in Zomato so that one can decide and come instead of come and regret / decide. b. Serving size needs improvement. Especially for white rice. c. We leave slippers outside but not comfortable using rest room without slippers. Better have a rest room outside so people can use it with slippers. d. Pricing is too much for the number of items we receive. It's my honest opinion.
You succeed pulling customers for the first time by good marketing gimics but you need to rethink your strategy to get repeat customer....

I am sure there are many food lovers always looking out for a nice restaurant to dine out, especially on a Sunday with their family members ,to escape the drudgery of working hard through the week !
Then, there are people looking for out for out of the ordinary exceptional eating place , that promises to offer a great dining experience on a special occassion like a birthday or an anniversary.
I am sure they all look for Google to guide them to find a suitable place
A good presentation of an idea of fine dining on the web page promising a great dining experience, is one thing but to live up to it is another story !
Trust me @ Vedhavalli’s Madapalli the architecture, location, ambience , Interiors with Ac comfort does live up to that promise of delivering a nourishing experience rooted in tradition and wanting to bring to life the soulful essence of South Indian cuisine .
But to me and my family sadly ,that experience was missing as our expectations fell short on many fronts !
Yes, they would have thoughtfully prepared the curated menu on offer but they serve it pretty late and cold through staff most of whom, in my opinion , are totally untrained in the art of serving food with a smile, - An absolute necessity in fine dining !
I do appreciate that hospitality Industry in Tamil Nadu does have a great dearth of quality man power ,necessiating restaurant owners to compromise with green hands perhaps through man power agencies !
Trust me their insisting their diners to confirm their option of menu before hand at the time of booking a table, in my opionion is a tough ask on first timers to their restaurant .
As far as taste goes , its just passable and they have a long way to go to fulfill the promise they make on their website site and to me their food is mostly kannadiga flavoured and not south Indian per se .
Of course foodie's from Karnataka, I am sure would be happy to taste their home type of food in Chennai.
Honestly our experience of 60 minute culinary journey at Vedhavalli’s Madapalli is at present mediocre, for the price charged ,to say the least but what made our experience better was the fine hospitality extended by their restuarant manager Mr Balaji with years of working in KFC.
But I would like to offer the owners with my years of objective reporting on hospitality for Trip Adviser USA & UK , my very best wishes and luck to the owneres to continue to serve Chennai residents , as their idea is pretty good and there is only two other restaurants in this genre in Chennai , through more active participation ,HR training and their physical presence at least on their hectic day of full house on Sundays to get feed back live from their chosen diners ,at least during its formative years !
Our family of 5 adults and a child were offered only two type of fixed thali meal' The kalandha Saadham Bhojabanam @ Rs 1399 + Taxes or Vedavalli Brahamana bhojanam @ 1499 + Taxes .The author chose the later and rest the former .
We were set back by Rs 7095 / and one thing missing is also valet service which could avoid diners crossing words...
Read moreWe went for a lunch to Vedhavalli's Madapalli on a Tuesday. We ordered Kadamba Sadham Bhojanam for the two of us.
It is essential to understand a few things.
It's fine dining and the resultant prices
It's no inion & no garlic food
More importantly, It's Karnataka style cooking which is different from what we are used to
Our welcome drink was a fruit that we usually avoid. The service staff asked us whether we wanted an alternate fruit juice and got that delivered. It was a wonderful volunteer gesture and well appreciated one.
We were given a corn and kosumalli type crossover salad mixed with their mystery chutney/dressing which was exquisite.
Starters :
We had Nachinde, which is basically the steamed urundai, a variation of what Tamilians use in paruppu urundai kozhambu, paired with a morekozhumbu type chutney. Absolutely delicious.
They served Thamara Thandu (lotus stem) manga pachadi which was tangy and tasty.
Main Course:
This had 1 serving each of Bisi Bele Bath, Pulihore (Puliyotharai), Vangi Bath, Orulu Chitrana (coconut-coriander rice) and Thayir Sadham. The sides included cluster beans (Kothavarangai) poriyal, Vadam, Boondi Raita, More Milaga and Avakkai pickle.
The main course was perfect and authentic Karnataka style cuisine. We normally eat less. For those like us, one may want to instruct the staff to bring even smaller portions. We were guilty of not being able to finish the main course.
Dessert:
A flavoursome Gulkand Kesari and gratifying Theratipal constituted the desserts.
We rounded it off with a decent filter coffee and pan, all part of the Kadamba Sadham Bhojanam that we ordered.
General:
Parking is available on the road nearby. I didn't notice any valet service. Reservation is recommended since restaurant seats less than 100.
We were comfortable leaving our footwear outside as this is a house rule. I sometimes wish that restaurants advice customers not to comb their hair in the restaurant. This is something that irks me a lot.
There is an option to squat and eat. We chose to do that. We had a great experience and hope all...
