From the winding streets of Canggu emerges a true gem for both the culinary enthusiast and the dedicated digital nomad: The Hungry Bird. Having frequented this haven over the course of nearly a decade, it never ceases to amaze how its charm remains consistently intact. One of the aspects that makes The Hungry Bird standout is its impeccable memory. After a hiatus spanning several trips and three years, Han, the owner, greeted me not just as another customer, but as a long-lost friend. He remembered my name, making the whole experience feel deeply personal and heartwarming. The space itself is an embodiment of comfort. Spacious tables beckon, each serving as a perfect workstation, echoing the sentiment that this is indeed the top spot for digital nomads in Canggu. With every glance around, one senses the thriving community spirit; individuals from various walks of life, coming together under the roof of The Hungry Bird. No review would be complete without raving about their culinary offerings. The ‘Monster Breakfast’ is aptly named – a delightful feast that tantalizes the taste buds with every bite. The coffee, robust and aromatic, serves as the ideal morning kick, ensuring you’re energized for the day ahead. In essence, The Hungry Bird is more than just a café. It’s a community, a workspace, and a gastronomic adventure all rolled into one. If there’s one place in Canggu that encapsulates the beauty of Balinese hospitality and world-class fare, it’s this. Whether you’re dropping by for the first time or the fiftieth, The Hungry Bird welcomes you with open wings.

On my last two trips to Bali I’ve only come to Canggu to get coffee at Hungry Bird. It can be surprisingly difficult to get good Indonesian coffee in Bali since so much of the specialty grade is exported. So I love that Hungry Bird has a menu of both local and imported beans for espresso and filter brew. From their expert roasting to impeccable barista skills, it feels like this is the best place to experience the best of what Bali coffee can offer. Now that I’m done praising their coffee, this is my favorite place for a tasty breakfast with filling portions and service that is always accompanied by the best smiles bali has to offer. Most of the other shops with decent coffee are western owned and have the western price tag on average food. The food at hungry bird won’t necessarily be instagrammable (if that’s your thing), but you will leave with a happy belly :) With the build your own breakfast menu, there are options for dietary requirements as well.

I was recommended this place by a few people and it didn't live up to the hype. I ordered a Cortado and my partner ordered a flat white, and when they arrived it was more like two lattes, absolutely wasn't a Cortado that's for sure, the cup was huge! The latte art was very impressive however that was unfortunately the best part about the coffee. There wasn't much texture to either of them resulting in a pretty average coffee. The staff were friendly upon entering and found us a place to sit which was nice. I know the Batista's have won multiple awards here, especially for latte art, but for me the coffee wasn't anything special. We both ordered a cookie each and they were good. There's a downstairs seating area which was really busy, but upstairs has a few tables and is much quieter. I didn't see until I was leaving that they serve v60/filter coffee (didn't see it on the menu), if I knew this I would've ordered a v60 instead.

This small coffee roastery has all the ingredients for a perfect morning – a cozy vibe, wallet-friendly prices, and mouthwatering food.

The moment I walked in, I was enveloped in the warmth of the place. The rustic decor, with wooden tables and soft cushions, created a cozy atmosphere that made me feel right at home!!

I decided to go all out and ordered the "Monster Breakfast," and boy, was I in for a treat! The plate arrived brimming with eggs cooked to perfection, crispy bacon, savory sausages, grilled tomatoes, and a generous 2 slices of sourdough bread. It was a hearty meal that left me both satisfied and eager to return for more.

But the real star of the show was the coffee. Being a coffee enthusiast, I had high expectations, and Hungry Bird did not disappoint. Their in-house roasted coffee was a revelation – rich, aromatic, and bursting with flavor. It paired flawlessly with my breakfast and kept me energized throughout the day.

What's even more impressive about Hungry Bird is their commitment to affordability. In a place like Bali, where prices can sometimes be a shocker, this roastery stands out for offering top-notch food and drinks at a fraction of what you'd expect to pay elsewhere.

The friendly staff and the laid-back vibe of the place only added to the overall experience. It's the kind of spot where you can spend hours sipping on your coffee, enjoying good food, and engaging in conversations with fellow travelers or locals.

Whether you're a coffee connoisseur or just someone looking for a tasty, budget-friendly breakfast, Hungry Bird is the place to be. It's a hidden gem that deserves all the praise it can get. I can't wait to visit again and explore more of their menu. Will defiantly return...

Dear Hungry Bird, I have always loved your coffee. Your coffee is my favourite coffee in the world. I have been drinking coffees and purchasing beans from you since you were in the original location. I think since the year you first opened. I was recently diagnosed with coeliac disease, and while I cannot enjoy any of the food you offer, I still like to come for coffee. Last time I politely asked if I could have my gluten free pastry from elsewhere with my coffee and the staff member told me that you didn't allow food from outside. I went to explain that I would have loved to purchase something from you but that I couldn't because of medical reasons. I was still very coldly told that you just don't allow food from outside and that's it. I have to say I am very disappointed and frankly quite sad because you were one of my favourite coffee places in the world and I love buying coffee from your roastery. Funnily enough I wanted to buy a Hungry Bird t-shirt with the coffee had today. I had decided to buy it after I finish it, and I am glad I did, because I would never wear it. I understand that you don't want people to bring food from outside but you should try to understand that living with dietary restrictions and strict diet is very complicated and frustrating. It is a medical condition not a fashionable diet. If you don't offer anything to cater for people with this disease you should not frown upon if somebody brings their own. It was just one piece...
