I went here with my whole family, after my brother had earlier tried this place with his wife and told us how great the place was, especially the food and the service by the staff who were extremely accomodating and friendly. We all went here with a lot of expectations, and while the food was beyond great the experience was stained by the casual racism we experienced here. From the get go, the waitress who was our server seemed to be extremely rude and in a rush. She seemed overeager to get us our order, pushing for it even before we had had a chance to look at the menu properly, even though we asked her to wait a bit. The restaurant was not in a rush at the time, it was not busy nor very full, so I did not understand this at first. On top of this, she was unecessarily loud. Why so loud in a half empty place? Our hearing worked just fine. It wasn't until she finally took our order that I realized her problem was probably our skin color. As Maldivians, who fit into "brown" people category in South Asia, I'm used to not caring about casual racism. When the dinner was done, one of my brothers asked one of the other waitresses about why we did not receive bread that is usually served before the meal. We actually didnt notice this at first, but after our meal started to notice that every white person there had been served this, which my other brother confirmed that they were served on their first night there too. So we simply asked as to why we werent served this, and the waitress stated that it might be a mistake and that she will bring it now.
First of all, isn't it just ridiculous to bring bread to a table after their meal is done and they are full? Secondly, it was never about the bread, that wasn't the point. While we were talking to that girl about the bread, our server came up from behind talking extremely loud to the other girl while she as at our table, again why the need to shout?
We were done with out meal, so obviously we sent the bread back as we did not need it and like I said, was never about the bread. While we were waiting for our car outside, our server came back with the bread saying that we should take it home and that its complimentary. This time we asked our server directly why we were not served to begin with, to which she says it was a mistake and that she forgot. She was so argumentative and confrontational, while we calmly asked if the color of our skin would have been lighter would we have been served so? Btw, we asked her if she had ever forgotten before, and conveniently she said no. Ikr.
While the food was great, will I come back here to experience such casual racism? No, id rather take my...
Read more🇮🇹 A LITTLE SLICE OF ITALY IN BALI 🇮🇹 We arrived at La Casseta just before 9PM yesterday. When we walked in, we didn’t expect much as we were just hungry and really wanted to eat pasta. We quickly ordered Rigatoni all’Amatriciana for myself, Spaghetti alle Vongole for my husband and a portion of Caprese to share. As we finished ordering, they brought us some water, eggplant focaccia mini sandwiches AND a basket of bread— this brought us back to Italia so much, as whenever we ate out in Italia, they charge us a couple euros for “coperto” and they give us bread in return. The vibe of the restaurant was very similar to some of the restaurants we went to in Puglia, felt like home & tasted like local Nonna’s cooking (but even better at La Casseta 😆) The fact that there were a few tables of Italians when we were there also added the vibes.
La Casseta has a massive menu and we can’t wait to go back and try our favourites! Can’t wait to try their panzerotti and paninis when we...
Read moreIt was messed up. 👌 Ordered pizza and spaghetti to take away.
The pizza is ready in a box but I think they forgot about my spaghetti. I ask the girl that hand me the box of pizza that I ordered spaghetti too. She seemed just realized something and run to the kitchen.
I wasn't mind until I have to wait for more than 20 minutes and my pizza became cold. I heard the staff were making noise of hard laugh inside the kitchen, joking each other.
This make me curious to read the reviews of this place and I think I understand what's probably happened..
The staff are friendly, indeed.. but they are too comfortable or maybe underestimate orders. I assume this because according to the reviews I am not even the 10th person that experienced this.
The pizza is not the best pizza I ever eat in this neighborhood but maybe because it was cold. The spaghetti Alla carbonara was still warm enough but super dry.
I will try again and maybe make...
