Lupine - Mexican Bistro — Restaurant in Bali

What it says on the tin, is pretty much it! It’s a different take on Mexican cuisine. Will you feel transported to the magic of Mexico City or the fiery flavors of the Yucatan? No. Because this is Bali, in Indonesia. But is it flavorsome, with excellent service and attention, as well as consideration to any special requests? Above and beyond, yes.

My partner and I were really hesitant to try this place, as we love to have either the “real deal” or Taco Bell (let’s be honest, both don’t cost much but have pretty special tastes.) We both agreed this space was good; good enough to come back to. In fact, in the moment we also ended up ordering more than we intended to/were hungry for.

What’s more, I had special requests insofar as changing up my own taco, and basically reinventing one of their cocktails. They did both and knocked them out of the park.

What I will say for anyone reading reviews due to uncertainty: give it a try.

My only unsolicited food notes were: -it would be great if there were more than one vegetarian taco option (and if the mushrooms weren’t so watery they destroy the tortillas but had stronger texture.) What would be greater still, is if there were some sort of jackfruit or vegetarian alternative that could be subbed in for any taco…but that’s nit-picky, as the mushrooms subbed wonderfully. -the corn tortillas crumble easily. Super delicious, regardless, but if they could be more pliable and possibly doubled up, it would make for a better...

I ordered a delivery - beef taco and chicken wings. The beef taco was flavourful but I thought it was a bit small. It looks bigger in the photos. The chicken wings were interesting. The pieces were tiny and the flavour was slightly bitter and lacked a bit of salt. I’m not sure if that’s how authentic Mexican chicken wings are supposed to taste but it was a bit odd. However, it was obvious that this wasn’t fast food muck. Because of the great reviews I’m going to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt and eat in the restaurant with my wife one day. I’m keen to try some of the other dishes. Overall, I felt it was a little expensive for the size of the portions. 1 taco was 60,000 and 1 portion of chicken wings was 85,000. Absolutely loved Lupine Mexican Bistro!

The ambience is vibrant and cozy, perfect lighting, great music, and an atmosphere that makes you want to stay for hours. The staff are genuinely kind, attentive, and always ready with a smile.

We ordered four types of tacos: L.A. Style Carne, Pork Chorizo, and Carnitas, along with the Chimichanga and their newest Chicken Wings. Every dish was bursting with authentic Mexican flavor and beautifully prepared. We also tried their Daiquiri and Margarita, both perfectly balanced and refreshing, the ideal pairing for a night like this.
