I wish I were reviewing the food which was AMAZING, but instead I have to speak on how awfully we were treated here. Secret Spot says it’s open til midnight and showers that there was vinyl listening sessions on Saturday. We walked in at 10:40 and were told the kitchen would be closing in 15 minutes which is more than an hour before closing time, but ok. We had checked the menu out online and already knew what we wanted so that was fine. Our food didn’t come out until 11:32 and 5 minutes later at 11:37 the music was shut off and most lights in the restaurant turned off. The server then asked us if we’d like any dessert because they were closing. She also asked if she could prepare the bill. She came back with the bill insisting that we paid right then even though we were in the middle of our meal that had just come out. I asked her if we could finish first and she said ok, then proceeded to speak Indonesian to all employees who sat around and stared at us. A few minutes later more lights were turned off and signs and outdoor seating brought inside almost blocking our way out. I rushed through my food and we paid our bill. I then asked a girl at the register if there was a manager around during the day to which another woman arrogantly responded I AM IN CHARGE. She wouldn’t say what her title was but when I shared how uncomfortable I felt eating with lights and music all off she responded WE ARE NOT A NIGHTCLUB. It was now 11:47 - 13 minutes before they were scheduled to close. I told her how great the food was but I was barely able to enjoy it since I had about 15 min to eat and she was very unapologetic and rude. Again, the food was amazing and I wish I could come back, but the treatment we received is probably the reason why I’ve walked by there a handful of times and nobody is ever in there. Maybe the owner should consider closing at 10pm since they “are not a nightclub” and the staff is so rushed to leave. I’ve never had this happen to me before and felt like I was bothering them my whole meal. One of the worse dining experiences I’ve ever had and it’s a shame because again - the food was delicious. Pictures of them closing and lights off...

Dearest, Darlingest Secret Spot humans… I have posted glowing reviews wherever reviews can be posted, but today, as SS’s first am guest, I feel especially touched and desire to share with you directly. Your restaurant is an absolute joy near perfection of an establishment. I write this with tears in my eyes, as I have seen the injustices and low quality of so many places all over canngu, and yours puts them all to rest. From the deep capability, attentiveness and huge-hearted genuine nature of your well-trained staff, to the beautifully crafted menu, friendly to those like me GF/vegan with allergies, to the love you exhibit for human health by cooking everything in coconut oil when the rest of the world seems to have lost their minds in refined vegetable oil…. To the Tuesday music nights and the many different, all lovely environments to sit calmly and collect oneself in the buzzingness of south Bali. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate what you’ve created. To me, I think your restaurant has become not only “secret spot,” but moreover: sacred spot. And that is something I hope you feel deeply fulfilled by hearing. What more could you want?! i believe excellence deserves acknowledgement, and I can only imagine the years of hard work put in to get to this point. So, with a full heart, I send you some love and deep, deep...
