Urban Bites Seminyak — Restaurant in Bali

When a group eats out, there is usually one person eyeing everyone else’s meal with regret. It’s not normal for everyone to feel like a different meal would have been better, far less for 5 people to then swap meals with each other and still feel unhappy.

One of my sons ordered fish and chips. Never in the history of fish and chips has someone expected to get 2 bits of poorly battered fish and potato crisps, not a chip in sight. Yet this is what they serve here.

Another ordered a burger but ended up discarding the poorly cooked patty and soldiering on with the empty roll. He too suffered the disappointment of expecting chips and being served crisps. So far, an abundance of crisp.

Yet when my wife’s ordered crispy skin fish arrived, it showed up without crispy skin and drowning in an ocean of butter, and not in a good way. Also, it had been showered in large chunks of unpleasantly poached vegetables.

I ordered Green Chicken Curry that turned out to lack all curry, be very short on chicken and also, short on green. It would have been better billed as “Yellow Salty Water garnished with chicken shards and mystery melon”.

Beautiful cafe but unfortunately I had a bad experience. I had been travelling Bali for two weeks and was pleased when I came across this cute little cafe. I ordered the eggs Benedict with smoked salmon. It looked and tasted absolutely delicious. As soon as I got back to my hotel, I felt unwell and starting vomiting. I think it may have been the eggs. I was due to fly out that evening but thankfully things improved. This was my first case of food poisoning since my time in Bali. I did inform the cafe via whats app but received no response. We visited Urban Bites for breakfast, and it was an excellent experience from start to finish. The place has a great vibe—modern, lively, and welcoming. The atmosphere alone makes it a fantastic spot to start your day.

We ordered the Smash Avo, Urban Big Breakkie, and a Smoothie Bowl—and honestly, they absolutely nailed it with all three. The presentation was beautiful, the flavors were spot on, and the portion sizes were generous. Everything tasted fresh and well-balanced.
