Gouthe is one of the very hidden gems in Canggu that probably gets missed out too many times. To our luck we are spending our months in Canggu just around the corner of the restaurant, so we luckily gave it a shot soon enough. Gouthe became our second home and we are spending basically every morning here for breakfast. From all the culinary spoiling Canggu has to offer this one found a biggest place in our hearts. It’s just so surreal to me that I after traveling to 50+ countries including most of the Europe I am experiencing the best French cooking has to offer in the middle of Asia.
The food standards here are no joke and don’t let the affordable pricing fool you. There is no room for error, the standards are set very high by artisan european chefs and the plates like the breakfast egg skillets, Platter Jean, Ivy and authentic huge french toasts are just amazing. Desserts and home baked bread quality is also something that’s very hard to find in Asia.
But what makes us love this place even more than the food itself is a very unique, quirky vibe they managed to set up in the open kitchen. It’s super satisfactory to just observe the chefs and team here play around in the kitchen in harmony, prepare amazing artisan food and feeling genuinely happy when doing so. It’s the ratatouille movie vibes all over, along with super homely interior, thoughtful presentation, oversized cutlery and mugs together with very warm care and hospitality.
Please don’t get disturbed by the near proximity of a busy road next to the restaurant - it’s the ONLY downside of this place. It just feels good to spend mornings here and gaze at the rice field across the road. Don’t miss it.
Thanks for everything guys, keep things...
Read moreI ordered their sandwiches on GoFood before, delicious comfort food though I find them slightly greasy and will only order when I want to indulge. I finally went in for a late lunch yesterday, cozy atmosphere and friendly service. However a few hours later I started getting cramps and gas, overnight I was vomiting nonstop and dealing with severe stomach cramps. I still can’t keep any food or water down right now, so I’m getting an IV drip. I checked with the friend who had lunch with me there, he also had food poisoning although he ordered a different dish. I rarely get food poisoning, even when I eat street food, so I sent a WhatsApp to the business to give them feedback and to let them know something might be amiss in their kitchen. Unfortunately their response was to hypothesize that perhaps it was food allergies, and to claim that they only use Aqua for cooking. I tried to give feedback in a private channel to see if they could correct the situation, and was disappointed by the response, so here we are. I live nearby and was looking forward to spending more time here, but you’ve lost...
Read moreSo, I walked into this place expecting a decent meal, maybe even a small taste of France. What I got instead was a ham sandwich on a baguette so tough it could’ve passed for a rubber tire. Maybe that’s the style they’re going for, but I’m not interested in breaking my jaw to eat breakfast. My wife’s fruit bowl was no better—just a sour fruit mixup and no sense of balance or care. And the ravioli? Don’t get me started. It was drowning in cream, like someone forgot that good food is about harmony, not excess. Herbs, salt, pepper—none of it came together, just a slapdash mess of flavors that left me packing up the whole thing to go, hoping to salvage at least something from the experience. This place sells itself with French charm and homestyle flair, but what they’re really selling is disappointment—disappointment in the food & in the promise of something special that never comes. They’ll take your money, your time, and your expectations, and leave you with nothing but regret. I won’t be back, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who values their time—or...
