Dimsum & Steamboat Babura (Dimsum Babura12) — Restaurant in City of Medan

The plain kwetiaw (kwetiaw polos) is amazing. It has a good texture for chewand flavors despite it being plain. Its not oily but has a right amount of wok frying skill.

The other dishes are also very good but special mention to the prawn ball (bola udang). It is very dense ok the inside with fillings but the outside is coated with some bread crumbs which is then fried. Very good contrast of flavor!

The le hongkin (leng hong kien) is overwhelming with mayo (only order this is you like a lot of mayo in my opinion, personally i feel its way too much).

Lobak goreng with XO sauce (fried radish) is mediocre. Personally would prefer more wok hei on this and flavors is a little too sweet.

Har gaw (hakkau) is very fresh. Sayap ayam madu is average. The pai kut steam are equally delightful and delicious. I love the balance of the black bean used and the freshness of meat. Many dim sum place tend to use too much black bean to mask the taste of meat that is not too fresh but babura execute this very well.

Another special mention is the purple roll like in the color of beet. Im not sure of the dish because my local friends ordered but its very obvious in the menu. Its like lumpia but very filling and nice with sauce. It seems like a fusion menu and not a classic dim sum.

The place is also comfortable and nice to dine in. Appropriate also for bigger groups and celebration. I would definitely come back if...

Came to the restaurant for CNY dinner.

Prior to that our mom was told that we had to buy the steamboat package in order to reserve a table -- turned out to be a blatant lie and clearly people can reserve table without having to buy the overpriced steamboat "package" .

the "package" for 5 pax worked out to be ~4million IDR is actually just a steamboat soup with substandard ingredients/taste (adding to the damage is that the advertised ingredients are missing from the actual dish - missing samcan, kampong chicken among others). The ultimate killer is the fact that they were already serving severely dry steamboat (see the picture) but when we requested for soup top up, the employee insisted that we already had 1 top up and not allowed for more soup top up.

Seriously the business is out there to rip people's money and I'm seriously disappointed and strongly warn everyone not to fall into the same "trap" as we did for this CNY eve. We made an effort to forget and make up for a messed up reunion dinner by having nasi padang for comfort food as the total bill of IDR 4.4million apparently was not able to satisfy and even leave us hungry...

Updated 2025, I visited on CNY season, the restaurant is packed, so crowded, a bit dissapointed. Sayap Ayam Madu is unavailable, and their Kwetiau Polos so lame, not as good as before. Sorry to say. Unconsistent, a bit dry, tasteless, and less veggie. I revised to 4stars. Hopefulle they can always keep consistent on their menu.

The best dimsum in town. A must eat while in Medan city. Being their loyal customer since I was in primary school. Highly recommended! Everything are freaking delicious! Yum. Few menu that must order:
