Holycow! Steakhouse by Chef Afit — Restaurant in City of Medan

Pleasant spot for lunch if you're in the mood for beef. They also have a salmon sandwich as well as one or two chicken options, but the main attraction here is steak. Cash or credit card (and probably e-wallet) accepted.

Pleasant place with friendly and prompt staff. Both indoor and outdoor seating and lots of natural light. Very quiet place, even at lunch time. Their menu primarily consists of steak options, nearly all from Australia and a few from the US. Steak is not a natural menu item in Medan so if you come from a place where steak is a thing you may need to brace yourself.

I decided to order the Wagyu hamburger but was told it would take 45-minutes for them to prepare it! Tragic. So I opted for steak since that was only a 15-minute wait. But the burger on the menu looked really good...

Top sirloin and ribeye are both good options. However the ribeye was marinated/soaked in something that completely overwhelmed and obliterated the actual flavor of the meat. Perhaps that's a good thing but not for me. I ordered medium rare and the only way I could tell it was medium rare was by texture - the color was a uniform brown from the marinade.

Your choice of sides - french fries or mashed potatoes. Went for the fries which were good but needed salt. In which case the mushroom sauce served with the steak is perfect. However the black pepper sauce has a very sweet finish to it that I wasn't expecting.

Blackcurrant soda (essentially a blackcurrant Italian soda) was delicious but also extremely sweet. Lychee iced tea was good but sweet as well.

Dari nama saja sudah sangat keren tempat makan ini. Sehingga saya punya ekspektasi yang tinggi yakni apakah nantinya steak ini akan sesuci namanya?

Sebenarnya ini sudah lama ada di Medan. Baru mampir sekarang karena udah denger kalau bugdet kemari itu engga sedikit. Jadi mampir sekarang sebab sudah penasaran setelah singgah banyak tempat di Medan.

Pertama memang harganya itu sesuai yang saya dengar. Tapi memang pilihan daging yang ditawarkan itu semua berkualitas. Jadi setelah menimbang dari semua pilihan menu, pilihan saya jatuh pada chef afit signature. Karena kata mereka itu daging wagyu dengan bumbu rahasia chef afit. Jadi worth to buy yakan.

Nah, akhirnya datang pesanan saya. Saya pesan dengan saus barbekyu. Sausnya menurut saya biasa aja, malah jauh dari ekspektasi saus barbekyu saya. Kemudian saya pilih side dishnya mashed potatoes, dan ini nih oke kali. Ga ada lawan kurasa mashed potatoes nya. Lalu ada sayurnya yang juga diolah dengan enak.

Finally dagingnya. Begitu sampai mba dan masnya lsg suruh cek kematengan dagingnya, saya pesan medium dan sesuai. Pada saat memotong emg udah berasa benar. Lalu kita coba dagingnya. Memang ada bumbu khas di menu ini dibandingkan dengan menu lain. Karena saya sudah coba ini, jadinya saya agak sulit untuk cocok dengan menu lain. Yang paling sulit bagi lidah saya itu saat mencoba daging Australi yang rasanya daging kali menurut saya.

Overall ini memang bukan tempat kaleng kaleng. Ya dari harganya memang mereka gabisa main main kan. Karena dengan uang segitu artinya orang sudah punya komitmen untuk makan disini. Dan bagi yang mau makan steak di Medan. Yang beneran steak, ya tempat ini bisa jadi referensi.

Sebab daripada cari murah tapi ga puas atau kecewa. Mending tunggu sedikit, pas ada rejeki coba makan disini. Pasti...

I've been visitting this place twice, since I like steak, and Holycow is mostly the place I visit to eat steak in Jakarta. First visit there is no problem, the servers is mostly kind and very helpful. But the second time I visit, there is one server, that I think is having problem with attitude. He took my order with an underestimated gesture and after he take my order whilst he is walking through the door, he kind of humming in low voice.
