Warung Babi Guling Amerta Sari — Restaurant in Denpasar Selatan

Was excited to check out this highly-rated local spot, but was pretty disappointed, food was mediocre at best. I got the Babi Guling Special and a coffee.

Some parts of the dish were good, the stuff that seemed to be made more recently, and the spicing was nice on the different sauces. The crispy pork skin was a highlight, along with a few pieces of juicy pork meat. Service was friendly and prompt but almost no English - I asked for milk for my coffee and got confused look, then an acknowledgment but nothing came.

The problem was that about half of the items seemed to have been made at least a few hours earlier and left to sit out. Deep fried pork skin or sausage that has been sitting out for a few hours and now lukewarm is not particularly pleasing and texture is seriously degraded vs. fresh to order. Soup was lacking in taste but came with a big pork bone with some decent meat on it. Coffee was of the instant variety, was incredibly sweet and not good to the point I only drank a few sips and left the rest. When you get the food it LOOKS better than it tastes to be honest.

Atmosphere is super local, I was the only foreigner there for lunch, and pretty unremarkable, but the music was too loud and too many flies.

Overall I would say PASS...

After receiving horrible customer service a block away, I hungrily speed-walked here and was greeted with one of the best customer service ever. The young man spoke good english. Food and drinks arrived quickly. The suckling pig meal was delicious and very reasonably priced. I ate everything on the plate, including my girlfriends' leftovers. Everything just works so well with each other, the spices, the textures of all the different types of pig-cooking...

I was asking my hotel receptionist for local Babi Guling Warung and I was glad I followed her recommendation. It becomes one of my favourite Babi Guling in Bali!

Generous portion, tender juicy pork, great spices in all of them and of course crunchy pork skin! It was so delicious that I decided to order 4 takeaways as oleh-oleh for my family back home in Jawa Tengah.
