This is a perfect family restaurant with great chinese food. The portion is (as always) enough for 4-5 people. The service is great and all the waiters and are very polite, trained well, and act fast. All the food we ordered was served super fast, even when the restaurant was quite crowded.
I recommended the gado-gado vietnam as an appetizer as it tasted fresh, tangy, crunchy (crushed peanuts), and had fresh jellyfish.
The vegetables we tried on were sapo tahu and kuachai siobak. Kuachai siobak is a unique dish where samcan (pork belly) was stir-fried with mustard. The thick broth was garlicky and perfect with plain white rice. Sapo tahu was made with all the fine ingredients including large shrimp, squid, tofu, fish cake, and even chicken breast.
We also tried a complete 5 combination barbecue of protein including: roasted duck, crispy siobak, chasiu, soy sauce chicken, thai jellyfish. It's a perfect balance for sharing if you want to try various proteins at once and are too afraid to commit to 1 full size. However, when I visited, the duck was quite dry and the chasiu is too salty for my likings.
The pork mantau was a pleasant and sweet dish with a perfectly cooked mantau. The outer layer was crispy and oily but the inside was soft and super tender. This could serve as snacks if you don't want to eat rice.
The restaurant also gives you free soup of purple sweet potato and ginger (kolak, but make it ubi ungu only version). And they give you sliced watermelons at the end of your meal.
The only downside, if you are seated near the entrance, sometimes it's a bit hot.
A very pleasant family lunch we...
Read moreA Hwa, one of the legendary Chinese establishments in North Jakarta, provides a dining experience that is both swift and satisfying.
The service, akin to a well-oiled machine, ensured that all my selections appeared with remarkable alacrity—within a mere five minutes.
The Mie Goreng was commendable, presenting no faults yet offering no extraordinary flair. It was a well-executed dish, though it did not ascend to greatness.
The Nasi Hainam Polos was equally commendable, infused with the delicate fragrance of chicken. Its price was surprisingly modest, enhancing its appeal.
The Lindung Fumak proved to be delicious, though I would have appreciated a more generous serving of eel to truly elevate the dish.
The Sapi Lada Hitam was notably tender, a delight especially for the young ones at the table who relished its succulence.
The Tahu with Abalone Sauce was arguably the pinnacle of tofu preparations I have encountered. Its excellence was matched only by its surprisingly affordable price, outperforming similar offerings at other establishments.
Finally, the Mantau Babi emerged as my favored dish of the evening, a triumph in flavor and presentation.
Thus concludes my review of A Hwa, a restaurant that balances speed, quality, and affordability with admirable finesse. Until our next culinary sojourn, may your tables be ever graced with delectable fare and...
