Penang Bistro is a hidden gem that delivers an unforgettable Malaysian dining experience. I visited with my family for lunch, and it was truly a memorable outing. The moment we stepped inside, we were captivated by the gorgeous interior—elegant yet warm, with beautiful touches that reflect Malaysian culture. It created the perfect atmosphere for a cozy and enjoyable meal.

The food was the real star of the show. Every dish we ordered was packed with authentic Malaysian flavors—rich, aromatic, and absolutely delicious. Among all the amazing dishes, the Udang Telur Asin (salted egg prawns) and Kerapu Steam (steamed grouper) stood out as the most unforgettable. The prawns were perfectly crispy and coated in a creamy, savory salted egg sauce, while the fish was incredibly fresh, tender, and steamed to perfection with fragrant herbs and soy sauce.

The staff were welcoming and attentive, adding to the overall pleasant experience. You can really feel the passion for Malaysian cuisine in every detail, from presentation to taste.

If you're looking for authentic Malaysian food in a stylish setting, Penang Bistro is the place to be. It’s more than just a meal—it’s a cultural and culinary experience that brings the taste of Malaysia to life. Highly...

I’m not one to usually leave restaurant reviews but i’d like to express how dissappointed i was with my visit to penang bistro gatot subroto (20th December 2023)

I usually visit penang bistro in pakubuwono. Penang Bistro Pakubuwono has been my one of my family’s favorite restaurant since i was a kid, but this time we decided to visit this branch.

When we arrived the restaurant was packed. Our appetizer came abt 10mins after we ordered. However our main course came more than 1 hour since we ordered. We asked multiple times to the staffs but they gave no clear update on the status of the foods that we ordered.

After over and hour, main course came out one by one. But when our sotong was almost finished one of the staffs took the plate without asking whether we have finished eating the sotong. When we called the staff and told her that we’re still eating the sotong she didnt say sorry and just put the plate back on the table.

Their food was good except their udang goreng telor asin (which was around 337.5k). The telor asin was too runny and wasnt fully cooked.

Really really dissappointed with the service here and moving forward i’ll just stick to their pakubowono...

I reckoned this restaurant goes with high-end concept, considering the menu selections and the price and of course the place. I went here in March 2022 and I really hope they are constantly improving for they have serious aspects to be improved at.

Service: I went here with a group and as advised by the booking staff we put our order prior to coming. It was a standard and usual thing to do, except when the menu which we ordered was not available they didn't follow up and some of us came to an empty table. Flavor/taste: some choice was just so bad, even inedible! As a group, of course we made various order and I managed to taste a little spoon of most menu. Not sayisfying! At least, not worth a single penny. I came to a conclusion right away that this place is highly not recommended, much less for a meeting with clients or be prepared to be ashamed lol.

To be fair, there are some good aspects. The place: very homey, very clean, very much satisfying for a restaurant. But I guess the money stops there. The restroom: so fragrant, clean, and again... homey? The women in my group used the restroom as photo spot: it...

The restaurant is one level above ground level (parking lot) namely main floor. It has elevator and wheelchair lane. It is spacious that it has enough space between tables and it suits for group dine in. There is smoking area at the rear of the resto. The interior decoration is lovely. I only tried two dishes: fried chicken with shrimp paste (one portion is charged for IDR96K consists of 7 pieces, tax excluded) and fried flat rice noodle or char kway teow (IDR76K tax excluded). The fried chicken is still my favourite, the noodle is just OK, if only it came a bit more spicy... Hot lemon tea is fine (IDR23K tax excluded). As of 24/03/2033 other foods and beverages prices (tax excluded) are as follows: mango chicken IDR96K, grilled jumbo sotong IDR125K, black pepper beef IDR148K, kailan salted fish IDR75K, squid tom yam sauce IDR103K, sapo tahu IDR81K, oatmeal softshell crab IDR103K, kangkung balachan IDR71K, teh tarik IDR36K, lime juice IDR44K, mango juice IDR46K, and ice tea IDR19K. The service is OK, not the fastest but not too slow either. Staff are polite and efficient.
