Soto Betawi Nyonya Afung Pesanggrahan — Restaurant in Jakarta

Enjoyed the soto, but it was no different than soto betawi at other places, only that it's more expensive. The place was clean and air conditioned, suitable for middle-class families. What really disappointed me was that their upsize package which I paid IDR 30k for was really not a significant upgrade: some extra broth, rice, and that glass of too-sweet sugar drink with some ice they called es cincau. It was not all of the story.

I was upset knowing that they charged me for the es teler I did not order. The server initially offered es teler or es cincau for the free upsize drink. I chose es teler. Then she came back to ask whether I wanted to stay with es teler since they ran out of coconut. I said es cincau would be okay. Then the disappointing es cincau came, and when we almost finished eating, es teler came. I thought it was the bonus drink from the upsize package. Used to be my favorite, but not anymore. I literally paid 60k for seasoned soup and barely-there morsel of meat. Not recommended. I ordered mixed soto Betawi with Gojek delivery for lunch today, expecting great meal like usual. But what I received was 1 slice of sengkel, 2 pieces of square-shaped kikil, 2 pieces of thinly sliced babat, crushed paru goreng, and heaps of soup. This is like serving food leftovers! Don't get me wrong, soup tasted great as usual. But come on... 60k for this? I rarely wrote negative review, but this is truly next level. To put this review and my dissatisfaction into context, pre-covid I used to dine here every now and then and I was always satisfied. Will never eat here again, they’re offering an upsize package worth 30k of rice, unsugared iced tea, a tiny size of cincau (which should be Es Teler) as well as noodle risol. The amount of dish is okay, the taste is just fine, but their upsize is disappointing. They’re adding one dish out of my knowledge and charge it to us after confirming that the coconut is not available that we wanted to change it to Es Campur for Upsize.
