During a weekday lunch visit, I managed to get a seat on the second floor without a reservation. However, during the Christmas season, the place gets very crowded for both lunch and dinner. I recommend making a reservation in advance to secure a spot.
While the prices are on the higher side, the quality justifies the cost, especially with the generous portions of thick salmon slices.
Order Review:
Salmon Maki (5/5): One of the best salmon maki I’ve had. The salmon was incredibly thick, and the rice was perfectly prepared.
Truffle Udon (5/5): Although it took some time to arrive, the dish exceeded expectations. The flavor was rich and unique, surpassing similar offerings from other sushi restaurants like Okina Sushi.
Tuna Bowl (4/5): This dish cost 350K without uni (450K with uni, but they were out). The tuna was plentiful and fresh, but I found it a bit pricey. Additionally, the accompanying soup was slightly too salty for my taste. When only a quarter of the dish remains, you can request an add-on of a fragrant milky seafood broth. While aromatic, it was also a bit saltier than I’d prefer.
Chuka Wakame Salad (5/5): A standard but well-executed dish. I appreciated that the sauce was served separately, allowing for customization. They were also generous with the wakame.
Overall, the experience was delightful, and I’d definitely recommend visiting, especially if you’re a fan of high-quality salmon and innovative dishes like the...
Read moreI cannot praise this place enough! This might be the best sushi restaurant in Jakarta, but it surely is for me. It will be so hard for other places to even come close to this. Their tokujo don is extremely fresh! The complex sweetness of the fish is preserved very well, paired with the mellowness of the real wasabi. Just wow! The caviar taco tartar is an amazing option for appetizer and mind you, this is the real deal, not your black tobiko stuffs. You can opt for a higher grade as well Don't mention their salmon belly and tamago. I judged sushi places based on these and they nailed both so hard that I want to cry from happiness. And their engawa aburi. Oh. My. God. If you never had the experience to eat something that melt like butter like all the reviewers you watched, you have to try this! But the cherry on top is their service. Came for a NYE dinner and oh boy, they did not disappoint. The service time is superb despite of the crowd, and the server! Wow! Fikri did a really really good job. He knew every details of the menu, on or off the menu, even gave you the best recommendation. Not a single dishes he recommended was a miss. Hats off!
Conclusion: just come to this place and enjoy yourself, you won't regret anything. It's worth every penny
EDIT: Now they have Engawa Donburi for engawa...
Read moreSushi Maru offers some of the best Sushi Rolls I’ve tasted in Jakarta. They do have a higher price point, but the quality and portion they serve almost justify it.
The place is crowded, so make sure you reserve before dining in. I waited for about an hour before I finally sit.
We ordered a few items, their famous Takara Salmon Belly Roll, the Engawa Aburi Roll, Maru Milk Buns, Maru Maki Special and Mix Mushroom.
We would like to order their Seafood Spaghetti with Uni sauce, but they’re out of stock.
The rolls are great, both melts in your mouth and blends well with their ingredients. The Engawa tasted better for me, but the Takara Belly is more worthed as its 8 per portion instead of Engawa’s 6.
The Mix Mushroom tasted great initially, a hint of Yuzu slices through its thick and earthy sauce which is nice. However, as they place it on top of a hot plate, it can get too salty if left for too long.
The Maru milk buns are however dissapointing. The texture is overall very mushy, as the Unagi was not crunchy, and combined with the salted egg sauce and tamago, it feels weird in your mouth.
Overall a great place to eat sushi Roll! Would love to come back and try their Uni Spaghetti. Solid dining experience if you are willing to splurge...
