Warung Bu Kris is hands down one of the best spots for authentic Indonesian comfort food. If you’re a fan of sambal, this place is heaven—every dish is served with their signature sambal that’s freshly ground on a cobek (stone mortar) and packs just the right amount of heat and flavor. The sambal really elevates everything, whether you’re having ayam penyet, iga penyet, or even their tahu tempe.
The portions are generous, the flavors are consistent, and the quality is always top-notch. Their ayam penyet is crispy on the outside yet tender inside, and the ribs are fall-off-the-bone good, especially when paired with the sambal. What I really appreciate is how they keep the taste authentic without being overly greasy, making it feel like a proper home-cooked meal with a punch of spice.
Service is quick and straightforward, even when the place gets busy (which it often does, a sign of how popular it is). The staff are polite, and the atmosphere is casual and cozy—perfect for family dining or a quick lunch with friends. Prices are very reasonable considering the portion size and quality, which makes it great value for money.
Warung Bu Kris is not just about eating; it’s about enjoying the full Indonesian dining experience. It’s the kind of place that makes you sweat a little from the sambal, yet you keep wanting more. Definitely a must-visit for anyone who loves real, flavorful...

Savoury east Javanese food with specialties in penyetan dishes. Located in the route of JakLingko Jak.14 and TransJakarta non-BRT 1M services. The place is quite hidden, next to and behind the A&W restaurant.
The challenge here is to find a parking space, especially for cars. Only 6 cars can be parked inside, while motorcycles can be placed on the side of the narrow entry way. However, the parking attendants ('kang parkir) were quite helpful to direct the incoming and outgoing cars. Be prepared to find other parking spot during peak lunch and dinner hours.
The food and drink were great! I ordered their ayam bakar penyet bumbu rujak, tahu telor, and es teh tarik susu. The penyet chili sauce is tolerable. Mild and not extremely spicy. The grilled chicken is also tasty.

Read morePopular Ayam Penyet chain store from Surabaya, this restaurant offers many menus of poultry, seafood and beef dishes. Their popular dish is ayam penyet, smashed fried chicken served in plates covered with their special chili recipe, which you can request the level of spiciness. The fried beef ribs penyet is a bit tough and dry. The soup version was better. There are also many other dishes worth to try such as tahu telor and pecel. Parking is really a problem as they got very limited spaces which most of the time was occupied. You will need to drive and park at somewhere nearby. If you got a sweet tooth, do order their refreshing sea-algae...
