We went there hoping to unwind after a long day of exploring the village, only to be greeted by a steep, unsafe staircase with no railing to reach the so-called restaurant. And honestly, calling it a restaurant is already a stretch.
Once we made it up the cliff, we were met with a chaotic atmosphere. The staff seemed overwhelmed, even though it was well past dinner time, as we had arrived after 9 p.m. We were seated on a sort of steep platform where we had to remove our shoes, and it was genuinely difficult to climb up and down from the "table."
Bad music was blasting from the speakers, mixed with a group of locals and foreigners playing guitar and singing off-key at a nearby table. That, combined with the poor choice of music, should’ve been enough for us to walk away. But we were already starving—and honestly, we felt trapped, not wanting to deal with the dangerous stairs again in the dark.
The waitress, who was the only nice thing about this place, brought us menus with amazing pictures and inflated prices, which would have been acceptable if the food had matched the presentation. But it absolutely didn’t.
We ordered a pizza, some kind of herbal tea, and a large bottle of beer. The beer was the only thing that matched the menu. The tea arrived boiling hot but nearly transparent, and worst of all, the pizza was clearly frozen and probably microwaved, as it was still cold in the middle. Honestly, we could’ve bought the same pizza at a convenience store for a third of the price.
Feeling defeated and unable to tolerate the chaotic scene any longer, we quickly stuffed down the pizza, paid, and left. My partner posted a negative review immediately, and shockingly, the owner, who is the same person who had been singing loudly and badly while ignoring guests, tracked her down on Instagram and sent her a threatening message, pressuring her to change the review and claiming he knew our friends.
The name “Joli Best View Cafe” really says it all, because the only thing this place has going for it is the view of Jemeluk Bay, and even that is only decent around sunset.
Other than that, there’s nothing redeeming: not the location, not the setup, and definitely not the owner.
I strongly recommend you stay away and save yourself from the disappointment—and...
Read more03/09 We had such a great experience last time so we decided to come again for the last meal in Amed before we leave but this time we were very disappointed. We ordered the same thing we had last time but it all tasted different in a bad way. The Honey Chili Fish was extremely sweet. We couldn't taste any other flavor except sweet. The Fish Curry was Soupy and Salty with not a lot of other taste. We were hungry and short on time because we have to go back to pack our bags so we didn't ask them to redo it because it already took a while to get the order already. After, we took the Black Rice Pudding thinking that dessert will probably taste the same as it's a kind of dessert where you have to prepare ahead of time and just reheat it for order. It took nearly 1 hour for us to get it after we informed them that we have been waiting a long time. Again, it tasted different. It was more liquidy and very bland. We did informed the staff when we paid that everything tasted different and she refunded us 20k idr which was a nice gesture but the whole evening was still disappointing.
The staffs are still very nice and friendly and the view is still great but I wouldn't be recommending this to anyone until they can keep their standard and quality stable.
28/09 Had an amazing dinner here! We arrived at 17:30 to have sometime to appreciate the view before the sunset. Recommend the Fish curry and Fish Honey Chili it was so good! The Grilled fish was okay. Great cocktail Pina colada, Mojito! Creamy Espresso Martini was okay. And I love the Black Rice Pudding! Staffs are all very nice and attentive we even brought 2 shirts! We were lucky to go on the day with live music. It was very enjoyable. Absolutely recommend, and better to...
Read moreHands down, this spot offers the ultimate sunset view coupled with a delightful dinner and a glass of wine! Initially torn between Joli Best View Cafe and See You Again restaurant, I chose the latter. Fate intervened when Tiwi, a friendly staff member from Joli, warmly greeted me while I was hunting for parking while on my way to See You Again. Despite mentioning my initial plan for See You Again, Tiwi graciously assisted and left a lasting impression.
As I made my way to See You Again, the playful sounds of a child inside the restaurant prompted a change of plans. Back I went to Joli - sorry, kiddo! What awaited me was the serene atmosphere I was seeking. Joli's ambiance was spot-on, with just the right music, a laid-back crowd, and an inviting vibe that instantly relaxed me.
I opted for the Ikan Santen with chayote, and boy, it was bomb! The restaurant itself was charming, tidy, and the menu offered a plethora of choices at affordable prices. To top it off, they surprised us with live acoustic entertainment - two talented musicians whose tunes perfectly complemented the evening.
I'm already planning my return. Joli Best View Cafe won me over with its ambiance, delicious and affordable food, and the promise of another wonderful experience. See you...
