Extremely salty pizza—disappointing experience!
We’ve been regular customers here over the past few years and have always appreciated the food and atmosphere. My husband even left a glowing 5-star review on TripAdvisor in the past. However, this recent experience left us deeply disappointed, and he had to remove that review.
I ordered the Napoletana pizza, and it was shockingly salty. I was extremely hungry, so I tried to push through and eat a few slices, but it was a terrible idea—my mouth actually went numb from the overwhelming saltiness. Concerned, we called the waitress to let her know about the issue. Unfortunately, she didn’t seem to believe us. To illustrate our point, we even offered her a small slice of the pizza, which she tasted but immediately spit out into a napkin without chewing. That reaction alone made it clear something was wrong.
A few minutes later, another staff member approached us to "explain" that this is how Napoletana pizza is supposed to taste. This explanation felt dismissive. We’ve traveled to Italy many times, enjoying authentic homemade pizzas with locals in Milan, Treviso, Venice, Florence, and Naples. While we know Napoletana pizza traditionally has bold flavors and uses anchovies, there’s a difference between rich seasoning and excessive saltiness. You don’t need to have visited Italy to recognize when something is inedible!
It seems the issue here may be a combination of an already salty pizza base paired with an overabundance of anchovies or anchovy oil? Either way, the result was overwhelming, and it rendered the dish unenjoyable.
The staff did offer that I could order something else from the menu, but by then, I was so overwhelmed by the saltiness that I had completely lost my appetite and decided not to get anything else. I had to immediately go to a nearby store to buy a liter of soda in an attempt to counteract the saltiness, and I was still drinking water at...
Read moreI recently visited this Italian restaurant based on the positive reviews, and while my experience was a bit mixed, there were some bright spots.
To start, the atmosphere and service were both excellent. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive, and the restaurant setting had a cozy, rustic vibe that set the right mood.
For my meal, I decided to try both the penne pasta in basil sauce as well as one of their pizza offerings. And while the pizza was truly excellent - easily 4 stars - the pasta dish left much to be desired.
The penne noodles were cooked to perfection, with a nice al dente texture. However, the basil sauce just did not live up to my expectations. It tasted unnatural and lacked the bright, herbal flavor you'd expect from a homemade sauce. There was a strange, artificial aftertaste that just didn't sit well with me. The portion size was decent, but the poor quality of the sauce really ruined the dish.
In contrast, the pizza I tried was absolutely delicious. The crust was perfectly crisp, the toppings were fresh and flavorful, and it hit the spot. If I had just ordered the pizza, my review would be much more positive.
Overall, I was left with a bit of a mixed impression. The great service, atmosphere, and pizza show that this restaurant has a lot going for it. But the disappointing pasta dish was a real letdown. I won't be rushing back for the pasta, but I'd certainly consider returning to try some of their other offerings, especially that...
Read moreBeautiful food! We are blown away. Absolutely delicious vegan options (especially the plant based mozzarella). Best food we've had in 2 months throughout Bali.
It would be all-round 5 stars if the staff didn't stare at you intently and uncomfortably throughout the entire meal, watching every bite you take and move you make, and interrupt you constantly during conversation or when your mouth is full to repeatedly ask how the food is, and buzz around your table repeatedly to clean away cups and plates the second they're put down.
We ate here a few times and I even asked once could we please have a bit of space as we'd like to enjoy our meal/date/conversation, and I'd responded for the third time in a row that the food was delicious and that no, we didn't need anything else right now. Unfortunately, the staff seemed a bit upset by this.
I understand that this may be regular Balinese hospitality, but please also under that it's not a relaxing way for many people to have a nice meal and/or conversation and it feels very uncomfortable, invasive, and rushed.
We would have spent more time here if this was improved and we were given the space to relax.
Massive kudos to the chef, and to the kindness of the...
