Excellent food, friendly and helpful staff, located right on the beach with a few steps down to it from the dining terrace area. This is a good place to get into the water to snorkel, and the folks at the Amed Sea View kindly let us leave a few items there where they would be safe while we snorkeled for hours. We came out for a snack and jumped back in, and later came back for dinner featuring what might have been the best fish curry we had in our month in Indonesia, which is saying a lot. The Amed spring rolls and the fried calamari were also very good. Snorkeling advice: Swim from here out over the very shallow and fairly damaged part of the beach reef, trying to stay as flat on the surface as you can and to not touch or harm anything on the way. If the tide is far out, you may have to navigate a maze of rocks and coral to get away from the beach without hitting anything, but it is possible to do. Once past these barriers, turn right (east) to the shallowish area in the middle of the bay where boats and other snorkelers hang out to see corals in fairly decent shape with a fair number of fish. Then go further in the same direction or angling a little more away from the shore, towards the base of the cliffs that form the east side of the bay. The reef there is in still better condition and populated by lots of varied fish. You may have to swim over some deeper areas, including past a buoy marking where some sunken artificial structures attract sea life. The deeper area is fun if you like to dive down, and its harbors some different kinds of fish, but even if you just like to float and find the bottom here to be too far away to see well, you will quickly get to good, shallower reef again closer to the cliff. Please don't be the thoughtless tourist who stands on the coral! That breaks and harms the coral, which is very slow to grow back. Just float, like you do naturally, and leave the reef intact for others to enjoy as much...
Read moreIn preparation for our stay in Amed I came across a tip via social media about a simple Warung in Amed, "Warung Amed Sea View". Pay attention because there is another one with almost the same name.
We were going to stay in Amed for 4 nights and went there the first night because it was also close to our hotel. What happened after that first time never happens to us because we like surprises. We cheated once because we had lunch at a snorkeling beach.
We went to "Warung Amed Sea View" 7 times in total... What a great woman is in the kitchen, the service is also fantastic and the owner is a nice guy.
But it's all about the food, everything from a mie goreng to their mixed fish platter, insane. Shrimp as shrimp should taste, mahi mahi as tender as butter and squid with a great grilled flavor. No fuss with sauces that have to give flavor only with freshly made "sambal matah".
When they asked how it tasted I said hmmm not a ten, she looked a bit disappointed, but when I said an 11 I saw a grin from ear to ear. I understand that this all sounds quite exaggerated, "it already is". But this team deserves to be visited at least once by everyone who reads this. Don't immediately go to those trendy sunset point bars, but do something weird and visit "Warung Amed Sea View".
A solid 11, and those who know me a little know how critical I can be. You won't regret a visit to "Warung...
Read moreNice, quiet family-ran restaurant, with breathtaking view at the sea. Very private and romantic atmosphere, the staff is really kind and helpful, also owner takes care of proper service.
We tried grilled fish and combination of seafood - fish was just mindblowing! Fresh, tasty, not overspiced, absolute masterpiece! Served with crunchy grilled vegetables.
Also lemon soup with fresh fish, prawn and calmary - worth a try!
About drinks - best Mojito I've had! What's more - if you are here ask for Arak No 1 - but brace yourselves, it may burn your eyes out ;)
As for price - dinner for 2 persons, soup, main course, desserts and few rounds of cocktails and shots - below 500k IDR which is more than fair comparing to other places in Bali.
To sum up - if you are in Amed you have to come by at least once, you definitly won't regret. Food quality is on really high level, prices are fair and the staff is really cheerful, not mentioning the view and beach-restaurant expierence!
Well deserved 5 stars - definitly...
