I am so sorry to write a bad review when the staff are so wonderful but having recently stayed at the Travisi Villas I do feel it necessary to warn other travellers.
I read previous reviews, which were mixed, but erred on the side of very good (8.5 on booking, 4 on Google) and booked 2 nights here.
The location is excellent for snorkelling, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Everything else though, is worrying to the degree that if this were in another country, the hotel would be closed by health and safety.
Our room was atrocious. There were bugs in the bed, the bathroom was so poorly lit (clearly with good reason) that is was hard to see quite how awful and filthy it was.
The patio door was broken, my husband fixed it enough to secure it. The bathroom door was completely busted and the opening so small it was difficult to get through. When ‘closed’ there was a three inch gap which let both the the insects and the horrific smell through to the bedroom.
No side tables, no lamps, very old furniture set far away from the bed and walls, my thinking is due to woodworm/termites/bed bugs.
We did not unpack our cases but made the mistake of leaving one of them open which i needed to completely empty when we left to shake out all clothing because it was swarming with tiny ants, no exaggeration, literally swarming.
Towels were threadbare and stained and the bathroom complete defies belief. We have travelled extensively and do not have any illusions about accommodation, particularly in south east Asia, but I can hand on heart say that the Villa (no.4) that we stayed in should be condemned. There is water percolating through the tiles in the retaining wall against the road in the bathroom so the floor is permanently wet in the bathroom. The toilet itself is sitting in a pool or brown water at its base.
The beach front area was very pleasant, but the pool was both murky due to a lack of cleaning and had lots and lots of broken tiles in both the children’s area and the main pool, the edges of the broken tiles were extremely sharp with lots of tiles on the steps broken, it’s a very dangerous situation. These broken and missing tiles are also a breeding ground for bacteria.
I left the hotel feeling...
Read moreWe stayed for a week in this cosy hotel. We are a family with four children aged between 6 - 11. The trip from the Airport to Amed is quite far especially in the evening when there is more traffic on the road. Expect around 3 hours to get there. The hotel lies straight on the beach and from the beach you have an awesome view of the volcano Agung. The beach front bungalow had a second floor with two mattresses. The staircase to this floor is very steep and dangerous so we took the mattresses down to the main floor. Without extra charge the staff provided us with an extra mattress so al the kiddies good sleep comfortably. The 'outside' bathroom didn't have a hot shower. The swimming pool in front of the bungalow and the beach very close by is amazing. Don't forget to bring you snorkelling gear because the coral starts only meters away from the beach. Renting them from the hotel is also an option and the prices are reasonable. The food in the hotel is okay. For breakfast, which was included in our room rate, you could make a selection from a menu card which had several options such as fried rice, pancakes or Indonesian omelet. It is basic but there is something for everyone. Kids loved the hot chocolate. :-) Staff were friendly and helpful. Not the employee who tried to drown a cat in the see in front of my kids :( If you want to make any trips try to arrange a driver on the streets or book them in the hotel, there was not a shocking difference in price. Overall a good place to stay for a...
Read moreWe stayed here for three nights and paid IDR 850,000/night (approx. USD 88). Our villa was one of three that directly faced the ocean. It was nice to relax on the chaise on the veranda. Service was friendly. Clientele are a mix of local and foreign tourists. Breakfast is modest but adequate. Unfortunately, there is a major fly problem, so you really can't linger at the cafe, but you could have your breakfast brought to your veranda or poolside. The villa is spacious. There is a large bed on the main floor and two twin beds on a loft, which is accessible by a steep staircase.||||We used the fan and opened the windows when we wanted fresh air and used the AC at night to keep bugs at bay. There is hot water, but you have to wait quite a while for it. Good snorkelling reefs are just offshore. The coast here is rocky--covered with igneous rocks from the last eruption of nearby Mt. Agung.||||We only used the restaurant for breakfast. Plenty of other places are within a ten-minute walk in either direction. Kids in the pool can get a bit loud, so take one of the villas in the back if you want complete quiet.||||The beds could have been better, especially for such a new place. Also, the front door of neither of the villas we stayed in worked properly. There aren't mosquito nets for the beds...
