Journey Taste — Restaurant in Kuta Selatan

It's all about expectations. Yes I know it is a 3, every review can't be a 5 (edited: I compromised with a 4) ... Read below for an honest reflection. This place is what it is - a downtown roadside cafe. It's loud due to traffic. It's older, hard plastic chairs, cheap picnic tables ... but why did you stop? To eat nuckle-head. So don't worry about what you see on the outside, come in and see for yourself why people love this place ... and they do! From the time we walked in till we left, it stayed constantly busy.

The good:. flavorful! Especially the spicy bean noodle soup, the mushroom and chicken dish, the roasted chicken with rice and the chicken fried noodle. ... hold tight, I'll save the best for last.

The bad: the spicy garlic 🧄 chicken had very little chicken 🍗, yet a lot of dried red pepper 🌶️ ... maybe I misunderstood the dish? The side dish of rice 🍚 was dry ... very dry. There's smoking allowed at the tables ... yuck (but acknowledging this isn't really an issue giving it's open air and has fans). ... and there is no wifi, but why did you come here in the first place again?

The best part ... wow, this place has several big things going for it. It's a social environment, with lots of smiles! The locals love it. The drinks, green ice tea and ice cappuccino were awesome on a hot summer day and to cut the spice of the spicy 🔥 bean soup. Service was fast! The staff here are awesome, friendly girls that hustle. The refill of cappuccino was at the table so fast I had to share it as I wasn't finished with the first.

Don't be lame or shy away because I gave it a 3, I'm tough with reviews ... your visit may be an easy 5. My reviews are based on my perception of what average is. We will visit again given the chance and do recommend for the contemporary...

This place gives a beautiful journey to the taste 😍 I can come here everyday and say the same thing. Cozy semi outdoor place with chinese style food. Excellent service. I tried:

Wonton Soup 9/10 Very simple soup with beautiful dumplings. So soft and the filling was juicy and fresh. The portion is so big, I can say it's a sharing for 3 or 4 portion (yet I had it for myself, no regret).

Paket Nasi Bebek (Rice with Roastes Duck) 10/10 Brilliant! The rice is fragrant and tasty. And the duck, so juicy and tender. The marination was on point, I couldn't smell any ducky odor at all. It was just how you expect roasted duck to be. The condiment was like a chili sauce, not spicy but again very fragrant, ginger-y and somehow sweet, gave a balance to the savory duck and rice. I adore it!

Pineapple Juice 9/10 Requested no sugar, and the juice still come sweet which indicated a well riped pineapple was used. So fresh.

All and all, the quality compared to the price is really really worth it. It's even very affordable for local, too.

Concern about parking area tho, you better come here...

Roasted Hainan Chicken Rice was quite good. Seafood fried rice had the 'wok hey' flavor. At a very friendly price too! I enjoyed the ABC Serawak dessert, yumm. For the price it sells, its very affordable.

The lady (owner?) was really helpful with recommending some of their favorite dishes. She also pointed out their (homemade!) tofu, cendols. Considering their big menu, recommendations are crucial, or else you'd get lost.

So happy to see that they also sell my childhood snacks. And saw plenty of fruit salad choices in their fridge!
