We were not expecting much from Nectar as it is seemingly one in a billion non-descript cafe bakeries in Bali. The location being quite a ways from where you’d expect anything to be of this quality. But there it is: Nectar is by far best in class for cafes and bakeries on the island. Everything pictured was better than anything you could get at any stand-alone coffee shop, bakery, or cafe. The white coffees was literally the best on the island. After inquiry, the beans are blended and roasted by Ijen Lestari especially for oatmilk. The pourover beans on offer were from Espresso Embassy another top Indo purveyor. We were floored by the quality and had multiple cups. The breakfast with croissant et al were well-cooked, well-seasoned and portions were ample. The eggs were creamy fluffy soft and just spot on. The croissants were yeasty toasty buttery soft flaky light and moist. I mean we could not think of another place on the island that even did these two things right let alone so very good. After our second cup we decided to try the dessert and to our surprise it was of very high quality ingredients with good execution. 3 out of 3 for the food and drinks and not just good but excellent in quality flavor and execution. It’s on our destination list for anytime we’re even within a 15km radius. Applaud the owners for being meticulous about every aspect of their products. It’s a breath of fresh air in a market so congested with frankly places that shine shit jist because tourists aren’t...
The food and coffee are good, but my impressions were very negative and the visit was very unsuccessful, since the policy of the establishment or the staff allows large dogs inside the establishment that put their paws on the table, walk around freely and bark. If you are not a dog lover and you are not ready to eat from the same plate with someone else’s dog or you are allergic to dogs, then I highly do not recommend visiting this establishment - at any moment an ill-mannered dog breeder can come in with a dog without a leash, which will bark, pose paws on the table and the staff of this establishment will pander to this person and her dog, giggling politely, to the detriment of your sense of comfort and safety. After 10 minutes of waiting and when the dog began to bark, I was forced to intervene myself - I politely asked the dog’s owner to take the dog out of the establishment, but, unfortunately, my request was ignored. p.s.: I am not against dogs in open areas or small dogs, or at least dogs on a leash, that is, I am not a dog hater and quite an adequate person, but when I eat I want to feel free and safe, and not expect that a dog, whose height is higher than the level of my table and which walks freely around the room, will stick its nose into my plate. And yes, listening to barking is not very pleasant either. It’s a pity that there are irresponsible, ill-mannered dog owners who feel unacceptably free and do not care that their pets can cause inconvenience to others because, in their opinion, if they are crazy about their pet, then everyone around them must be ready to kiss with their dog. Well, or at least politely giggle if their dog puts his paws on the table and tries to get into the plate. Well, I’m also sorry that the staff of this establishment indulges such abnormal people to the detriment of the feeling of comfort and safety of other visitors. Well, next time I will find out whether dogs are allowed in the establishment, so as not to end up in...
Read moreUnfortunately, my experience with Nectar was not a great one. I went there with my boyfriend due to the good reviews the place received on Google. I asked for a lemongrass tea and a pain au chocolat and I was very surprised when I received an espresso mug with a lemongrass stick in it and some hot water + a black tea bag. I have ordered lemongrass tea so many times in Bali but never received something like this! This was rather a joke. I asked for a larger mug immediately because I didn’t understand why would they give me such a small mug for a tea! Half of the lemongrass stick sticked out. Pastry is mediocre - my pain au chocolat was ok-ish but nothing wow or delicious. They have 2 pieces of each product on display (at 11AM) and the staff responds passively to “thank you”. We got an “aham”....
