Just arrived in Bali (for the 19th time), after a long travel commute.
Post a swim, massage and shower at the resort in Nusa Dua, I decided to stay local tonight and try Ratna Restaurant.
Started with a frozen margarita and it was outstanding.
For a starter I went with the calamari, with a simple aioli sauce. The calamari itself was lovely, not chewy. Unfortunately the batter was far too thick. If a thicker batter was to be a feature, than the batter needs more flavour and seasoning.
For my main I ordered the fillet red snapper. The sautéed vegetables and rice were lovely and perfectly seasoned. The snapper itself was a tad over cooked, and a little on the dry side, yet still had some nice flavour.
Bali has one of the best food scenes throughout all of Asia. This place felt a little circa Bali 2008. The island has moved on, and although it was an enjoyable meal, accompanied by excellent service, they need to consider the shift in the culinary expectations of...

The bbq meats and seafood were tasty however I found the vegetables and rice dishes very oily. There were lots of fresh salads and fruit however as I'm trying to avoid Bali belly I'm avoiding all ice, mixed drinks and uncooked food washed in water. The beer comes in bottles so that was safe to drink - it went well with the Bbq too. Live music was playing which was a hit with the crowd here- was very 'cruise ship' music; playing crowd favourites and singalongs. Not really my cup of tea, but sitting out under the stars with a sea breeze and a bit of atmosphere was great and better than sitting in one of the other very quiet restaurants back from the beach. Note it is much more expensive than...
